Actually the "culture" is why my cb is only on at customers who require it. Used to be a nice useful tool to pass time on the highway but now theres too much trash pushing power and agitating just to get a rise out of someone. Society is fast headed south.

I understand your point...there is too much BS these days, and its not just on the CB, anybody that knows me will tell you I'm not very "social"...mine is not a "big radio", just enough to be heard, I have to have it to communicate with escorts...it is required by law...I don't talk on it very much at all unless Mike and I are running together, but I always monitor it for a heads up on traffic...not for bear reports, not for hooter shots (I got one the other day, first time in 5 years)...It saves me time quite often simply by finding out about a backup in time to take a detour.

I hate wasting my day sitting in traffic that I could have avoided...once in a while I still find good conversation on there too.

Also, the "culture" you're referring to is not the same one I'm referring to...I couldn't care less about the CB rambo's, know-it-alls, and various other types of idiots...I'm talking about the few real drivers that are still on there. I heard 2 guys chatting the other night, on 19 no less...I was at the Pilot at the 329 (Franksville, WI)...2 old hands, talking the "language", just chatting away...the conversation ended with "God Bless and keep the shiny side up"....literally brought a smile to my face and I wasn't even in on the conversation...that is the culture I'm talking about...that culture is still alive, just not as common as it once was.

When I do decide to talk on the CB (or even face to face), I'm always as polite as I know how to be...I guess it comes down to a persons morals...I was brought up to believe that I should always be polite to everyone whenever it was possible.

As Grandad said...be polite to everyone, but trust and respect have to be earned because if you give it freely you set yourself up as a sucker...so far that advice has served me well.

I think this mount looks better. I'm about to start working at maverick. Figured I would attach this for my ham antenna. Just mounts where the mirror does using the existing bolts. I'd take it off of course going to a maverick terminal though. But the other poster is right, just ground the antenna to a solid metal surface on the truck

    @ ridgerunner

Big 10-4 on that last post. I think you and I must have had a very similar upbringing. I enjoy the CB sometimes and keep it on for traffic alerts mostly. I rarely talk on it but every once in a while I give a "heads up" to another driver. And if the air waves get filled with too much BS I will switch it off.

Keep in mind that if you replace the stock antenna on your truck, the shop will remove it and throw it away the first time you go in to have something fixed. I've seen it done twice. Leave the factory antenna where it is, and mount yours anywhere else on the truck that doesn't require drilling into it anywhere. Maverick is an awesome company, but they are SUPER picky about installing stuff. My best advice is to talk to the shop first and ask them about whatever mount you're considering, and typically they will offer to install it for you if it doesn't involve drilling anywhere. But seriously, they'll remove your antenna if you outright replace the factory one.

Maverick's new policy is factory mount only. Anyone with a different mount is being forced to remove it. Ive heard many "b#### sessions" about this at the fort smith yard. Even those guys mounting them behind the sleeper on the headache racks are being forced to remove them. So if you see someone with something other than a factory mount, he either hasnt been to a terminal with it that way or he is just putting it back on after the fact and taking the chance of gettin caught with it. As for removing non factory antenna,Ive never heard of that and when I was a company driver I ran wilson's and was never asked to remove them or had them taken off.

It would make sense that person would just remove the mount when he enters the yard, what they do not see what hurt them. However, I guess it's possible other maverick drivers may see it out on the road and report it

Other Mavericks see it,but most of us dont care and wont report it. That being said, there are those who like to run up those brownie points.

I've seen two drivers removing their antennas and putting the factory ones back on right there in the Little Rock yard, just before they pulled into the shop in broad daylight. They didn't seem to care if anyone saw them, they just made sure the factory antennas were screwed in before they took it into the shop.
