I am ready to take the plunge into the Trucking Lifestyle. However, I am concerned that a ticket I received in May of 2010 may be a problem. It was my first ticket in 7 years, I was doing 69.9 in a 45 construction zone. I received 4 points on my car license. I am 43 years old, and have only had a few tickets in my life, as stated previously this one was the first in 7 years.
Will this one infraction detour a company from hiring me after i complete Truck Driving School and obtain my CDL License?
Thanks for your input.

well some companies say no more than 3 speeding tickets in X amount of years most of the time, although thats just about 25mph over, and in a construction zone.
-
i don't know what else to tell you......wait till it drops off the radar screen,(whenever that is in your state), but the companies may get a deeper record on you, or go to school and take your chances. -
Any citation written to you that happened in a vehicle with a motor and wheels on a paved road and sometimes dirt is going to go against your record.
-
YES! I have one that is seriously hurting my ability to get work.
Similar ticket only 20 over ("only" snerk) Insurance Co's call that reckless driving....
Caught on radar in the middle of nowhere..... -
I talked to a recruiter at Roadmaster, and he stated, I should take a defensive driving course offered in my state. It only cost $54.00 and upon completion and passing of the tests they will remove the 4 points from my record. However, the infraction will still show, but the points will be gone.
You think that would make a trucking company feel better about taking me on? -
Cut to the chase and start calling trucking companies and see what they say before you spend any more time and money on this adventure.
-
call or go in person to your state DMV and confirm what the recruiter said. you need to remember, a recruiter is a salesperson for the school. let's say for example the points do not get removed.......the recruiter can just say, "oh, they must have changed thier policy again".........
now if its true (in your state), then pay up, and keep your nose clean from now on. -
Remember...drivers like you are the ones that give the trucking companies a bad image and cause accidents and raise insurance rates... would YOU hire a person who may endanger the financial health of your company?
-
Krooser- I agree that drivers who are chronic driving offenders do cause harm to all via financially, or physically.
I am not making excuses for my ticket, as no one is to blame but myself, but please keep in mind as I did say in my first post, it was my first ticket in 7 years.
