Why would running local ruin your career? You don't have one yet. Run Local and you won't have to face the shame of driving a triple c truck at 64 mph up and down the interstate. I can't believe there are still people out there accepting those ridiculous working conditions. Actually you're better off running local. less stress and if you look around, most of the interstate carriers are worthless. Let me rephrase that. Ninety percent of them are worthless. Stay local, stay home and lead a normal life.

12 hours ago my company was worthless since I was not allowed to leave the hub this morning even though general hub policy should have had me out 2 hours earlier. I had my hooks and was told by my supervisor I had to stay even though I was about 5 higher than normal because of drivers being off..blah blah blah.. The harder you work the more you get to do at an LTL company.. It's been like that for me all week since I was 4 or 5 higher than normal all week but left at my usual time when I'm one of the last drivers at the hub.. I was super pissed till I realized I made about $1900 this week running 2100 miles..lol(that is about 5 hours per night on the dock alone though).. It is what it is.. I wanna make money and be home daily so this will always work for me no matter how big of a baby I am while I'm there..

I would get the OTR under my belt first. But I can't fault you if you go local right out of school if you can.

He seemed to be wanting to lean towards OTR, that is what my comments were based on.
I have more years local than I do OTR, and I like both for different reasons. I had to pay for a refresher to go OTR though, since my local did not count. Since he is right out of school, if he really wants to try the OTR thing then this is the time to do it. So he will not have to pay for school again.

I really liked driving local. My issue was that in my area the local jobs that pay well are very rare. I can make several hundred more each week being OTR , even with the lowest paying company than I can driving local. Also most of the jobs I did were seasonal. So when the snow flew the work dried up. That is a regional thing though. One of these days the snow will stop falling off the lake and I will be ok.
I keep an eye on the local LTL docks, but they do not hire much. So I am running the road again till something different comes along.
