I needed to purchase a tool to break the tie rod ends loose.
Napa sold me this tool, but it's a bit larger than the size of the shaft.
Will this tool take that tie rod down or is it too large?
Is there a different tool that I should be using?
Will this tool work for tie rod ends?

Diesel Dave Thanks this.

I mean to break the tie rod loose from the steering knuckle.
-
Just take the nut off and bang with a hammer or mini sledge. Your gonna replace them anyways.

Never had any luck with those. Besides it destroys the grease boot so if you had to change a bent cross tube that had good ends, you'd wreck them.
Usually a couple good, solid blows to the back of the ackerman arms will drop the tie rods. Usually there's a flat spot or pad there to hit.speedyk, shogun, Dino soar and 1 other person Thank this. -
I have hit the steering knuckle with a heavy Sledge but it didn't break loose.
If that's okay I'll put the old nut on it and I'll I'll hit it with a sledgehammer. For some reason I thought you're not supposed to drop it that way.
New ends are going in.Diesel Dave Thanks this. -
