Companies won't look. It might show up in a Hazmat or TWIC background check which you'll still get approved. Those are actually separate from your employment and I doubt the company would even get wind of it then. Get those done on your own if you decide to have them and don't let a company pay for them. All a company needs to know is if you are a vet or not, discharged under honorable conditions.

From here forward don't play the system like many do and it won't haunt you or catch up to you.

Companies will not look at it and the TWIC card will not be denied to you because of it. I would advise you to have it upgrade to Honorable. I would also tell you not to stand guard duty while smoking pot. #### Hippies.

Some of these guys had some good info for you. I personally do not know how the military thing works or how or what a company does to get background info from the military.

I do know for sure that if they find out this will definitely put a damper on things. Make sure you are up front and honest about everything though. They may not find out the first day or two or even for a couple months, but eventually they will and when they do you will be sent packin with no notice! So be honest so that you don't waste your own time and money!

You can also just start calling around to the different companies now and ask them what they think or where you stand. They have no idea who you are nor will they remember so you should be free to be open and honest when asking questions.

    Good luck man....

I was discharged from the Navy in 1990 with an OTH discharge. My DD214 clearly states "misconduct due to drug abuse." I am way past the window for attempting an upgrade. Does this mean I am likely unemployable as a company driver? How might such a discharge affect me as an o/o?

I was in the Military. In all job searching they only can know what is legal to know. I'd actually be more comfortable saying I took the General's Jeep on a joy ride. Such as it is. One thing I learned from Martha Stewart: People only know what you tell them. No More, No Less. The instinct to Confess can bite you in the ### later. Never confess to something if it is not documented in a place they can get to. You were in the Military-- remember "Never Volunteer." Now, will they find it in the Federal Crimes Data Base? That is the question.
