I recently got a Cobra 29 and Wilson 5000. I finally found a cb shop to tune the radio and antenna with an antenna analyzer. We were having a very hard time tuning it. Thought we had bad coax so we removed the antenna to check it out. The tech had the idea to measure the coax before we did anything. It was supposed to be 18' from Wilson well it measured 17'1". After the tech did some calculations he trimmed the coax to 12'1". We reinstalled the antenna and it almost fell right onto tune.

Just thought I would post this in case anyone else ever has a problem.

Sounds like you had a bad connector on the coax. If the antenna is tuned properly, the length of the coax is irrelevant.

Here we go again......the length of the coax will change the meter reading when dealing with a bad RF ground. But if he is putting a mag mount on a car, I wouldn't think that would be the problem........bad connector is probably correct.
