The stinger is the whip, or the metal wire that stands straight up out of the base of the antenna.

Yes you can replace the whip. I actually have a spare sitting I got when I bought my 1000 used around in case I ever find another Wilson 1000/5000 w/o the whip, as most are afraid to ship them with the whip thinking the cost to ship would be expensive.

The difference between a 1000 and a 5000 is the 5000 has an extra heavy duty coil for running a lot of power thru. The Wilson 1000 will handle 3000 watts max. The 5000 will handle an extra 2000 watts and 20k watts on ssb.

For what it's worth...I would Never buy a "Used" Wilson Antenna off eBay or any where else...Reason being, you could be buying one that has problems with the coil, and the guy is just trying to unload it on some poor individual to get some of his money back...

I have had several Wilson's that after a while developed shorts in the Base, which is where the Coil is...They look OK, but will have a rattle when you shake it...And they will not tune...
