Well this is my second post. I read a lot on here and very few occasions do I feel that I should speak up. I have talked to them as well and here are a few warning bells. And I am not judging them, just a few comments from what I know is happening and what has happened in this industry in the past. 1) You will be directly competing with company trucks. And company trucks will always get the gravey loads. 2) If your relationship happens to fall apart, which can and does happen on occasion...you are more than welcome to leave...however anything you have put into your truck such as the lease payment and/or any extra payments to accelerate paying it out...will be gone. The truck will revert back to the fleet and you are gone. 3) if you cannot meet the payments for any reason, anything you have paid up to the point where you miss payment will be gone...and again the truck reverts back to the fleet 4) The first year to 36 months you will be running hard, making good money (good thing) As it comes closer to the end date of your lease, your loads and miles will start to dwindle (bad thing) As you approach the last 12 months of your contract, you will find yourself barely surviving and you will not be able to maintain your payments...and guess what...the truck reverts back to the fleet. 5) At the end of your 5 year lease and you have paid off your truck (good thing) the company will tell you that the truck is to old or to many miles and you will need to lease a new one (bad thing), however you will not be able to use the truck for a trade and you will have to try to sell it (bad thing). And the cycle starts again... That being said, if you are very careful, if you are a very smart business wise and IF you are very conservative with your $$ you may be able to make it. Like I said in my other post....be very careful and DO YOUR RESEARCH.

So as I was saying in my previous post, I am not painting all carriers with the same brush, there are good companies out there, and I hope TransX Deck X are good and things work out, as their deal looks good on the surface

Miles are pretty good. Been hitting around 12,000 each month so far. I feel like I've been running like a chicken with its head cut off. Only been home twice since I started. Reset my logs all over the place. I live in Alberta, and have reset in Ontario, Manitoba, California, and right now in Nebraska.
I am pretty pleased with coming here. Sometimes mistakes happen, but they are good about some kind of compensation for that. It's not a lot, but better than nothing. The pay is about average for a company driver.
I'm quite sure that things will change very little when I do get my lease unit, because as they are paying for some of the expenses, they do have some skin in the game and they don't want any truck to sit idle. -
Thanks, and keep us posted. Like I was saying it looks like a decent deal, but I have been around this game a long time and unfortunately have seen a lot of good men get taken down by shady unfair deals

As for the bulk of what you said, yes it is a risk. Starting a business is a risk, and I would not be surprised to find companies who will screw drivers like you described. Just need to be careful and plan ahead. For one, I would NEVER, EVER, make any extra payments to help accelerate the payout. If I have some extra money, I will keep a few payments in my bank just in case things did fall through. Better to have the money making interest for you.
My ultimate plan is to be able to buy some equipment to start my own business, that doesn't cost a lot, and I don't want to finance it. I can also use the leased truck after it's paid off in this business, so it would not go to waste. As long as it works well, I'm keeping it. -

Well it certainly sounds like you have the right attitude and planning so Im sure you will do well. Hope to see you on the road sometime.

Always remember.......................Companies want Owner Operators because it costs the FAR LESS than it does Company drivers doing the same job.

Still think anyone would stand a better chance getting money from a Nigerian Prince than having this latest TransXscam work out... -
