I have a hydraulic beavertail trailer with a hydraulic winch. I think that it is a Braden winch. Anyway, I want to buy cable that is easy to handle and that nicely wraps around the drum.
Would anyone have a suggestion as to the type of cable to buy?
PS I also do not get something. They sell electric winches "rated for 18,000 lbs pull strength" with only 3/8" wire rope. How is that possible???

The easiest handling and nicest wrapping most flexible cable is fiber core cable.
It is sold by companies like AW direct who supply the tow truck industry. -
Static vs dynamic load, you can load a 18000 pound rolling truck on a trailer, but you cannot lift it on a trailer. That's how it was explained to me by a Warn rep.
Grubby Thanks this. -
Look for a crane and rigging supply store, they usually have a selection of wire rope to choose from and will pull old off and help you put new on.
I used to work at one and they will help you out.MagnumaMoose and ichudov Thank this. -
You will be wanting to visit the Harbor where tug boats work, might want to look into some of the special cables they use today. They have gotten really strong over the years.
Just one big important thought if you use these instead of wire cabling. If the "Rope" begins to make noise, you get yourself and everyone else away from there FAST before it cuts you in half or anyone else in reach. -
Thanks, guys,. I bought a 7/16" wire rope with fiber core. We will put it on sometime soon.
blacklabel and x1Heavy Thank this. -
Is there a update on this campaign kind sir? -
My guys installed it in the winch yesterday. We have not pulled a forklift yet. It looks good and wraps well around the drum. We'll definitely use it next week and I will post an update.
blacklabel Thanks this.
