Proud owner of a complete worthless piece of ####.

Effective today...WITHOUT the dreaded "phone home" update.

My fully licensed copy of Win7 complete with it's new nag screen....is telling me I should purchase a valid copy of Windows.

    WTF ???

Once again...not about privacy. It's about legalized theft of services, forcing the end user to pony up a second, third, or even fourth time.

    Going back to Vista...#### Win7

Dual boot your system. I run Vista Home Premium (came with the laptop) and Ubuntu (now at 9.10, all upgrades free). I keep the windows for easier gaming, and use Ubuntu for everything else.

I am satisfied with the vista. Never looked strongly at the 7 and very glad I passed on it.

well if it was already installed on one hard drive, and then you installed it on another hard drive, this will happen. yes you bought it legally, but installing 1 key on 2 machines is not. read the E.U.L.A.
it has been this way for XP, and Vista.
as for Vista being better than Win 7, well Win 7 is not as much a resourse hog as vista is.
Win 7 is a slimmer version of Vista.
as for operating systems i will stick with XP Pro and OSX

Another good reason for Linux-based operating systems. Now if more game software developers would port their programs over, my life would be completely Microsoft free, and quite possibly perfect.

    The Teenager says:

Have you installed this copy of Windows 7 on other computers in your household? If you have, you can only use one license on one computer. (Like cherokeechief has said) If you have multiple computers that you want to upgrade to Windows 7, you need to buy the 3 PC version of 7 where it comes with 3 licenses.

If you haven't installed Windows 7 on another computer in your household, then your copy has been a victim of piracy and you need to contact Microsoft here:

    http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/reporting/default.aspx

EDIT: @Roadmedic how in the WORLD can you be satisfied with that lump of coal?

I don't have any problem with 7. Install it on one machine like you're supposed to and you won't either. If it is "fully licensed" and it's still complaining about validation, call up the Windows validation service center and they can sort it out. Complaining about one Microsoft product and getting revenge by switching to... another Microsoft product doesn't really make much sense. :)

And the argument for Linux is stale at best. Linux is fine for some people, not fine for others. It's certainly not "perfect." Windows is closer than Linux is at that. I wouldn't hold your breath hoping for more games to be developed for Linux - you're in the bottom 1% of desktop users.

If you had read his posts you would find it was purchased and the problem happened during one of the automatic updates.

As far as my lump of coal.

I did not even move toward vista until January last year.

I have to make sure my tax programs and accounting software will work on a stable platform. This includes many of the years I keep for clients.
