No, I never have. Maybe that's what's wrong with me. LOL I don't know what you drive but, your exhaust is probably above your bed. Carbon monoxide is produced by a diesel at much lower levels than a gasoline.

Well I have listen to many stories about people dieing in the cab do to exhaust.. Most probaly not true but it does happen. A leak can develop at any time under the tractor and enter the cab.

I always had a smoke detector and a carbon monoxide detector in the truck with me.. My biggest fear is burning alive and this I have seen with my own eye's. Small investment and probaly will never have them go off but it does give me comfort knowing I have them..

 

I agree 100% with Truckerjo on the CO detector. You are going to have more CO coming in from other trucks with your window open. It is also not safe as it allows burglars and other not nice people access to your truck. A few years ago people were getting gassed and robbed.

 

Most of the exhaust leaks that get into the cab come from underneath.

You can also get exhaust inside through the fresh air vent when winds shift outside.

One of my dads truckin buddies died from carbon monoxide poisoning back in the early 90's. Guess it was just a freak thing because he kept a really clean well maintained truck. Only thing they could figure is the flex pipe started to leak and somehow it went straight into the bunk. Forgot all about that till this post.

A CO detector would be you best bet. I've tried to shut my truck down and sleep with the vents open but the trucks running around me with the weed burners were pumpin it out and eventually started to make me ill. So I shut the vents and fired up the truck. Went inside the truckstop lounge for awhile till I felt a little better and went back to the truck.

 

A detector is the only thing that I insisted that my boyfriend carry on his truck. It is one of those things that I hope turns out to be a huge waste of money; I hope that it never goes off. But if it does, it is the best $50 that I ever spent.
