Hello all,
I am thinking long and hard about opening a glass repair/replace business. I am not trying to solicit business, I just wanted to get feedback from a truckers point of view about the glass repair/ replace business. I am still undecided whether to start or not.
Just as background... I found a location that used to be a truck wash so I would convert it to my glass shop and run a mobile service from there, too. I could work rain or shine! It's in a great location near the docks, shipping piers and ports so I know there will be plenty of trucks and drivers out there. But I wonder how much business would come from truckers and trucking companies, and whether it is worth opening a shop.
How often do you need repairs? Do you repair little chips, or only cracks. Do you use a shop, or is the service mobile? I'm hoping to get your insights into glass repair on your trucks.
Thanks!

It seems that I have a rock hit my windshield about every year, especially if I am running up north in the snow and ice. Sometimes, I find a shop, but I can usually get the same price from a mobile service and I don't have to worry about whether I can get to the shop in a truck.

Get a new windshield = a new crack, leave a old crack never get a new one.

I 've been sitting in truckstops and had glass guys drive thru or solicit business VIA the CB. And get results. Trucks do need glass repair quite often.

Meanwhile, that crack was less than a month after getting it replaced due to a rock cracking my window down in Texas. Go figure.
