    Blow-over Risk: 50+ Mph gusts
Extreme Blow-over Risk: 60+ Mph gusts
"Closure to Light, High Profile Vehicles" is also 60+ Mph gusts but used where they have the big overhead signs.
"No Unnecessary Travel" == dangerously icy roads but no one has crashed and blocked the road yet.

Wydot only closes roads for two things

    1) Lack of Visibility
    2) Crashes

    So take their warnings seriously.

    Oh to add some more

    Strong winds: 40+ Mph gusts
    Reduced visibility: less than 400'
Slick in spots: less than half covered in snow and/or ice

There is absolutely no way I'm volunteering for icy plus anything over 40-45mph. Maybe someday when I get my trucker penguin waddle perfected. But not today... This wide open wind thing is a new scary world for me. Where I come from we have trees and hills and trucks don't flop over...

As a Wyoming native I will actually commend you for setting and sticking to your own personal defined limits. It is the only smart way to go.

Having been born and raised here I can remember being in Boy Scouts and being confused by the Beaufort Scale which made it seem like I should be living around constant destruction.

Slowing down, driving smooth and knowing when to stop and wait are the skills you need.

People refusing to drive any speed except the speed limit or their governed speed is what gets most people here.

Remember that at normal driving speeds, dropping your speed by around 10 MPH halves the amount of energy. The below numbers are approximate wind force per square yard of surface area.

    MPH: KW
    --------------
    30:1.5
    40: 3.4
    50: 6.7
    60: 11.6

While I don't have empirical data the people I see being blown over are those who are speeding up trying to get to the next truck stop...but your forward velocity adds up with the above numbers. If people would slow down they wouldn't blow over as often.

But don't feel rushed as your health and safety are what really matters no matter how much the dispatchers complain.

That's awesome I've never seen the Beaufort scale before. Up on the Tug Hill plateau we have wind!! Rip off the barn roof wind. But the highways aren't too vulnerable due to the edge of the plateau driving winds up over rt 81 usually. I've been in a couple of cars and trucks pushed off the road I to a ditch or field by wind tho. And they're easier to pull out and don't turn over..fine line between beautiful and exhilarating...and terrifying and deadly. Sometimes that line is seen too late.

That's why there aren't any trees on Elk Mountain. It's Force 10 and above two out of three days in wintertime.

It will get easier for you,BUT stay a little worried when the wind starts blowing hard or the snow starts turning to ice. Your life comes first the truck/trailer can be replaced just like the contents.

I like this; I also prefer to slide my tandems to the rear in high wind, after the port and before the next. FB_IMG_1609161506664.jpg

Wow that's really interesting! That's very close to my neurotic intuition. Not sure what that says about me or the person who made this slide LOL
