Those 2 packs of polarized day/night glasses they sell at the truckstop helped me out a few times. When you get caught out on the road in a white out they really seem to help you almost "see through" the snow and keep it on the road, and i think theyre like ten bucks

I'm going through CDL school now and one of the instructors said to keep a bottle of rubbing alcohol with you. If your trailer brakes freeze up take the emergency glad hand off hold it up and pour as much alcohol in the line as you can, reconnect and cycle the trailer parking brakes a few times. I thought this was a good tip, thought I'd share.
He did also say like some others have said that if you can to just use the tractor parking brakes only.

Funny you ask. Umm no. He told me where to hold it but not too close because if it heats up the fitting too fast it will break. Well it was freezing cold and I was under this trailer and I held like he told me. Nothing seemed to be happening so I held it a little closer. Bad idea. It heated it up and cracked it and had air gushing out. So I call back and he tells me I told you so. So now they have me cross the air lines and limp down I-80 to that big truck stop with no trailer brakes.

11 yr Army vet and I didn't think of that?!? Shame on me! :biggrin_2551:

(90* shovel also makes for a decent 'pop-a-squat' in the woods!) :biggrin_25525:
