You don’t have to replace to whole air dryer. Just the filter once a year. If you don’t have water in the air tanks when u drain it. You should be fine. You can test the batteries. But need to unhook all the cables except for one battery and test individually.

Keep a piece of hose in ur truck. And a hacksaw and hose that with fit over the heater hose for emergency repair. Those metal heater hoses are hard to find on the side of the road. You can cut it with the hacksaw where it’s leaking and put a rubber hose over it

Easier and cheaper to change the dryer/cartridge every fall than it is to sit in a parking lot with a frozen air system.
