SEND THESE TIPS TO YOUR COLD WEATHER FRIEND"S
    > Helpful Hints For Winter
    >
    > Keep your headlights clear with car wax! Just wipe ordinary car wax on your headlights. It contains special water repellents that will prevent that messy mixture from accumulating on your lights - lasts 6 weeks.
    >
    > Squeak-proof your wipers with rubbing alcohol! Wipe the wipers with a cloth saturated with rubbing alcohol or ammonia. This one trick can make badly streaking & squeaking wipers change to near perfect silence & clarity
    >
    > Ice-proof your windows with vinegar! Frost on it's way? Just fill a spray bottle with three parts vinegar to one part water & spritz it on all your windows at night. In the morning, they'll be clear of icy mess. Vinegar contains acetic acid, which raises the melting point of water---preventing water from freezing!
    >
    > Prevent car doors from freezing shut with cooking spray! Spritz cooking oil on the rubber seals around car doors & rub it in with a paper towel The cooking spray prevents water from melting into the rubber
    >
    >
    > Fog-proof your windshield with shaving cream! Spray some shaving cream on the inside of your windshield & wipe if off with paper towels. Shaving cream has many of the same ingredients found in commercial defoggers.
    >
    >
    > De-ice your lock in seconds with hand sanitizer! Just put some hand sanitizer gel on the key & the lock & the problems solved!

I recall one freezing day I was coming east on I-20 along about Abilene and my truck just nearly stopped running, I managed to make it to the Ty Exit truck stop and my truck would just barely idle. I went in side bought two bottles of fuel anti-ice putting a bottle in each tank. Them shut my engine down replacing the fuel filter filling it up automatic transmission fluid. Started my engine back up and it run just fine.

From that time on when the temp dropped below freezing I would be sure to anti-icing to my fuel tanks and I never had that problem again.

I would also try and keep a gallon bottle of bleach in my truck, there can come a time who just might not be able to go up a grade when its iced over, yet if you will pour just a little bleach on each drive tire you just might get up the grade and keep on trucking. That bottle of bleach helped me several times to be on down the road without having to have someone pull me.

also leave you windshield wipers in the up position when expecting snow, so they don't freeze to the windshield.

but on my stupid f-150, they won't lock in the up position.

and instead of windshield washer fluid, i put this special deicer fluid in there. to help break up ice the accumilates while driving.

the regular stuff would freeze up at 25 degrees. even thou it says good down to -20.
    yea right.

    okay.

Keep quik start sparay in truck (but not in cabine).

For DD60 owners - I would recomend to add manual priming pump

    Keep a kit of chains...

    Be sure batteries are good

Check trucktor and trailer ABS system. It may save your and someone's life.

Do brake test and ajustment... bad brakes on ice vert\y dangerouse!

Use antigel and keep a kit of fuel filters in truck. Blocked with paraphines and gel filters mau make your truck sitting somewhere far from any town.

you want to keep the doors and side boxes working..? keep a can of Silicone spay in the truck. every winter i give a little shot on the hinges, outside door handle, door latch, outside door lock and spay some on a paper towel and wipe in on the rubber seal on the door.

Silicone will repel water and will not freeze

to keep the windows from fogging take a candle and make an X on the window then clean it off with news paper.

the wax will keep the window from fogging. try in on the mirror in the bathroom at home sometime.

"Rain-X' your windshield!! This stuff is great. Rain will roll up in little beads and blow off your windshield. Sometimes you won't even need the wipers on with this stuff. Works great in snow, too.
Clean your windshield thoroughly before putting it on, and make sure you wipe off the residue w/good, clean paper towels. Works on mirrors, on side glass too. And on headlights. A great, great product. When it is raining hard, you can see about 5x better than no Rain-X on. It is amazing. Water just rolls off the windshield.

I have a small bottle of Car Wash detergent in my sidebox. I put a few drops of it in the Washer res. along with a 3/4 qt. of that cheap brand Windex. Then fill the rest of the way up with normal windshield washer fluid. Makes cleaning windshield a snap.

"cheater chain" Used on ice/snow at a Shipper/Rec/anywhere to move around the icy lot; a 3' length of chain w/hooks or a caribeanner /similar type fastener. Wrap the chain thru a drive tire/thru the wheel-hole up over the tire/fasten it w/the hooks. It will often let you go enough where you don't have to totally chain up to move off the lot. DON'T, of course, try to drive down the highway with one of these. Only used to move a little ways, when you're stuck on the lot. Or just throw one chain on and move...it ain't hard to do. In the lot only. Not on road. Use required am't on road.

Carry a 5' long flat-bladed shovel. You might need it to shovel your way out of the truck stop enough to get to a spot w/better traction.

A little rubbing alcohol in your windshield washer fluid will keep it from freezing up as well.
