So why are other brands sporting the winterfromts and I have yet to see any Volvo's?
I have run some miles with sub zero temps and my truck holds steady at 180ish. Weight and grade make a difference of course.
So whats the consensus on when Volvo's use the winterfront? Or do we just not need it?
Thanks
Ivan

If your temp stays good no need for it.

I had a Volvo overheat in very cold temps while climbing a hill because of ice on the grill, which created its own winterfront-like situation. I'm sure they're probably necessary on some trucks in very extreme cold, but the thermostat should take care of it in most cases. Last winter I used a winterfront on a new Freightliner and the fan kept kicking on. So I took it off.

Volvo cooling system is better designed to maintain temps in cold climates.. Engine "warm hold" feature is one example.
IMO their biggest problem in the winter is plugging of the grill with snow/ice. -
I've had 2 780's, never put a winter front on either of them.

Winter fronts will kill the intercooler on a Volvo.

I found the need for a winter front when I ran a 2 speed fan hub. The low speed is magnet driven and constantly on, it overcooled in the winter. Since putting in a regular ol on/off hub, haven't needed a winter front

I put mine on below 20 degrees to help me stay warm. Cuz when that cold I gotta crank my heat all the way over. Mine came with the truck.

I have a Detroit DD16, I don't put on the winter front until it gets under -25.
