Ok, I did not if it would be better to roll thru around 3:00 am versus in the middle of the day. We do not travel alot of California so I was just checking.

HAve all of your papers in ORDER. Verify your tags, stickers, permits in ORDER. Verify your tractor's outside stickers are in order. Chalk the stroke rods under your rig. Set parking brakes chalk them again. They should roughly agree.

Check your lugnuts. Particularly if you have steel budd wheels with that crappy alumium polish cover. (Who does that seriously, two metals trying to be decorative...)

Run your air tanks twice a day. Once at breakfast and again when you hit the berth at night. You are not going anywhere so what's the rush.

Fuel half tanks. Take care of your paper work to be nice and neat. They don't have to be in order but careful calligraphy and cursive tends to blow away the DOT people who engage in a form of scratching. (I am such a meanie on paper. I tease and tease and tease...) If you run a spread axle, make sure that you give Louisiana a eyeful between your axles by hanging a proper gator under there so they know on sight that its yea long and can haul this heavy.

Have some trays of extra food, maybe a few good quality drinks unopened, with seals. Carry all that into the scale house around lunch time. Hand em off as you make ready for inspection. Tell them that are they hungry or not, we don't care about that inspection until we have this excess food out of the way, don't worry it's appreciated and out of the way.

When you break scales like I did, go whoa KEWL like the rest of the police gathered in the windows. Identify the one who is a Captian, Officer or similar not happy with the sitaution because the State is going to demand answers he does not yet have. Thats where YOU come in by the time he gets through with YOU.

Just one minor problem. That last CA DOT lady officer called BS on my paper logs being 8 minutes off because (Unknown to her) I had prefilled my log prior to rolling into the Silicon Valley area outbound for Salinas to finish my 70 hours in 45 minutes.

We went around and round. The louder she got the softer I got. The more she puffed and swelled, the smaller I got. Always the opposite. I was a nice boy. A really nice boy.

She let me out of that garage. And me and my big fat mouth yelled "Thank God THAT BS ##### is finished GAWD #### me."

She ran to the fuel tank and stood on it a minute.

I thought I was finished for sure. But Im still here. Whoever she was, I hope she has had a nice life, retirement and all of that like I did. It's too much to go back digging up years worth of BS. lolz.

No need to chalk your brake rods.

A visual inspection is much faster.

Any brake with a gap between shoe and drum is out of adjustment.

    mhyn and x1Heavy Thank this.
