Wireless card in truck for Internet

just get the unlimited data plan and look pnet.com for the software. like i said before. it good to use to check out your email or send one and check outweb sites. for down loading. it is slow. I heard that black berry is very good when using it as a modem. a lot of business people use it as a modem.

 

try getting a laptop with wifi built into it. and whatever other goodies you waqnt on it, then when your at a truckstop you can be hooked into there wifi, I've looked at some truckestop sites myself and they charge a decent price for monthly rates. only you have to make sure when you stop you have to stop at the truckstop where you have your plan...unless you go the route with the card like mifi with verizon wireless but as they say make sure its unlimited. then whereever you as long as you have a signal you can use it. the better half and I have toshibas. with built in wifi and at home we have rr router. I get back on the road I have to decide card or the monthly plan at a truckstop.....

 

Any one know who still has the unlimited plan for their air cards. I work at Best Buy now, & it seems the only unlimited they have, you need a tax ID # & a credit union to get. So, do you all know of any that you can get just as a consumer, & how much does the unlimited cost.

 

I have never seen a unlimited card. most plan limit you to 5gb per month and you go over that. it going to cost. some people dont like using the phone as a modem. I have a smart phone which i can get on the net. I pay for that. Now with a software. I can hook it up to my lap top and get on the net. As long as I can get a signal. I can get on the net. with my phone or lap top. You can burn up 5gb real fast if you surf the net alot.

 

Millinecom now has an unlimited plan for $69.99 a month. Just look up their site (Millinecom dot com) for all the details. I have heard very good reports on their coverage and service and there is no service contract that you sign that locks you in for a number of years.

 

I have a Verizon card and they give us a suction cup antennae that plugs into the card for the areas with limited service. The antennae is about 3 inches long and suctions to the windshield and works great inside the patrol car.

 

Waning about WIFI at the truck stops: Use caution when using them as a lot of the WIFI sites are now being pirated by hackers that put a better signal out and you will hook up to them and then they have access to your computer! Do NOT use a WIFI to do any thing where you need to put in a password for banking or something sensitive! Then you have to worry about the idiots who actually try to hit you using windows explorer! Yep they really do!

The price of a WIF at the truck stops makes it a not very good deal! Look at it this way. You have to find the TS you have the WIFI at, drive there try to get close to an antenna and hope someone doesn't park between you and the antenna and then it's about as fast as AOL was when everyone starts to go on line! If you're trying to email scanned bills and paperwork it will take forever! It's not worth the money.

With a broadband set up where ever you have signal you're on line! 24/7 and the speeds are pretty good. Good enough to stream a movie.

Yes, most of the carriers have gone to a capped plan or the 5gb deal. I got mine and am grandfathered in but when it stops I will pay extra for the unlimited as it doesn't take long to reach 5gb! Read my other post! Just go to your carriers site and look up the usage chart and wonder WTF came over them! I use my computer as a TV while I'm out because I don't want to have to buy a new HDTV as I have several old TV's in the garage now that are pretty much useless! Plus, why take up more space in the truck. I'll figure out how to record off of the satellite TV at home and burn them to DVD and bring them along and then there is NetFlix for 9.99 a month!

Yep, broadband is the safest way to get on line next to using the cell as a modem until they start to cut that off! I think they need to expand the internet and up date it here like they have in Europe!

 

This is what 5gb will get you....I have been using a Verizon USB760 for a while now, and I'm on the internet waaaaay too much...I have yet to go over 3 gb, and that includes YouTube...lots of YouTube and a few video chats with my wife and kids every month.
