The coverage maps are only part of the story. Tests have been done in various places nationwide, particularly cities to determine the coverage, reliability, and speed of the cellphone companies. It’s also worth noting that the smartphone used within a network matters. Typically newer devices have access to more cellphone towers and/or more advanced cellular networks (say, 5G).

Verizon don't work within a 2 mile radius of my house. Along my path to work. At the concerts. Or the sticks in my work travels

Verizon works about half whereas att covers me 90 %

And when you break down in bfe and have to use your att hotspot to make a wifi call for road services. Because Verizon was MIA
