Hi all,
I drive for the pumpkin and Im trying to figure out a better way to wire up the XM. I went today to try to figure things out a bit and Now the wires are just on the floor in a heap, lol.
What Im trying to do is just hide the wiring and work it around so its not visible...or less visible than it is now.
I have the Century for a tractor.
Right now, the set up I have is the xm is velcroed (well it will be as soon as I get some 'aint gonna get this sucker off' strength velcro) to the dash above the various switches. Was thinking about putting it low on the windshield but I've heard some states have laws against that. I'd just like to get it closer to my driving field of vision.
From there, I have three wires sort of going all over, The power going down to the cigarette adapter by my knee, the cassette adapater (the FM method doesnt work at all with this radio...not sure why), and then the antenna cable.
The antenna cable then goes up to the overhead CB radio mount cubby where it then joins the other antenna cable (not sure why there is two). They hook up and form a jumbled mess of 24343 feet of cable. I then have it looped over on the inside as its open, to the overhead junk compartment which is in front of, and above my head. There it then comes out of that compartment, slides through the air horn pull, out the triangle mirror and is wrapped around a couple of times onto the left mirror mount by the CB antenna.
I tried having the antenna in the truck but I couldnt get any decent reception, and with the set up I have now...I only lose signal for a few seconds a day....once going west and three times going east.
Now, I know lots of other drivers have theirs set up very cleanly which is what Im looking for.
Any ideas, suggestions?
Thanks,
Ryan

When I was rolling with my trainer, he had XM.
He had the display on a suction cup mount and had the wires come down the center windshield pillar. He got power from the cig lighter on the lower dash. His truck radio had an AUX jack on the back that allowed direct connect. This radio is sold in truck stops. He said the factory radio in the truck was junk so he got rid of it. As far as the antenna, we just taped it at the base of the windshield and ran it out the small window to the mount. It worked like a champ and wasn't in the way.
and yes this was in a century. -
I had my sirius radio in my big old pumpkin when I drove. I had the player on my window with suction cups in case I had to pull it down for dot or something. I had the power going to the cigarette lighter, you could cut the end off the cigarette and wire them to the power for the c.b. on the dash. I then just had the antenna going out the passenger vent an up on the body just over the visor with double sided tape. It never fell off and I never lost reception. My fm transmitter worked fine so I didnt have the tape.

Now how did you guys get the antenna wire to the outside without the wire being in the way? Right now, mine goes through that triangle window, but its in the way of the front curtains if I want to close them and I havent figurered out a good way to hide them (or at least minimize them visually) and still get them outside. -

I just put the antenna through the triangle window then ran the wire across the dash with my atlas on top the wires to hide them -
yeah, routing through the triange windo worked for my trainer.

I just got your PM, but cannot reply because I don't have 50 posts. Thanks though, can you PM an email I can contact you?
