Wish I knew this before I did Linehaul, governed at 62 mph.

They come up 62mph on my adaptive screen. I pass the same YRC driver, almost everyday.Danny707 Thanks this.

My run is 618 miles a night and I shave off 20mins total in a 70mph tractor compared to a 68. In my world 20mins makes a big difference!ducnut, PaulMinternational and Digman943 Thank this.
-
But would you quit if they turned all the trucks down to 68?ducnut Thanks this.

Yes sleeping during the day is tough...I have meds for that..been on same line haul gig 25 years,,,cant imagine driving during the day when ALL the idiots are on the road. Schedule was important to me ...I came off long haul so I could take my kids to their ball games, music lessons , have a life and every weekend off as well as pension, paid holidays, etc.
Currently 4 weeks paid vacation, 12 paid stats and 10 paid sick days...adds up eh? -
Would you rather save 20mins total on your day and have the ability to get around slower traffic? I run for OD and our tractor's are governed 65, 68 and 70. Tractor speed is based on the run mileage and I'll always take the longer run with the faster truck.
-
That wasn't the question though. If you could only do that run in a slower truck, would you quit over it? Since 20 minutes is such a big difference.
I've done a run exactly that long in a 65mph truck. Every day I got back with 1hr30min left on my drive clock. My truck went out of service for a few weeks after a deer strike and the spare I took was a bit slower, getting me back with 1hr10min left most days. The difference was not noticeable in any way except for that clock. I still made the same amount of money and started and ended my days at around the same time.ducnut Thanks this. -
Show me. SHOW ME the ####ing LTL company that has "top notch" Line haul equipment.
I will buy you a steak dinner if you can show me a major, national, or even regional LTL company that doesn't ship out "That'll do" equipment on a daily basis, leaving the consequences of a trailer being below par, to a driver.
####, I'll buy you a house if you show me a good LTL driver job, that isn't a speciality position, like medical, military, specific reefer, and hidden dry freight, in which the driver isn't being underpaid. And I could pay that house payment with how much you would low ball that.
None of us are making what we should.
Don't argue that this guy has the wrong attitude. He has the wrong pay schedule. -
If 3 mph saves 8 minutes, one way, what would 8 mph save? We're talking about a 62 mph truck.
If my math is right, that's 42:45 per night. That's an extra 14 hour day every month.
