Fact it the matter though, rights ARE more important than others feelings.
I understand where you are coming from, but when I carry concealed, NO ONE is aware that I am carrying. I have seen first hand life being taken, and it is not something I wish to experience, or for those that I care about to experience. Most of the time when I see a store that says "no firearms," I boycott it. But if I'm in an area that I perceive a risk, and have to go through it, I will choose protection over anything else.
With all the danger out there do you guys keep anything to protect yourselves?

Rights and feelings unfortunately go hand in hand.
no two people have the same.levels of feeling safe.SheepDog Thanks this. -
From a Constitutional standpoint, they do not. The Second Amendment clearly states:
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
source: http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/second_amendment
I don't recall anywhere in the constitution or the following amendments to that venerable document any terminology that states anything similar to the idea that all Rights protected by this document are so protected as long as noone's feelings are hurt.toostroked, Harbinger117, Cjh_army and 1 other person Thank this. -
I couldn't agree more. One of the problems we face, is that so many view the Constitution as a living, breathing document, that can be interpreted on a whim in the name of political correctness if someone's feelings are hurt. As long as that someone isn't a conservative, or a Christian. We are not a nation of victims. We are a nation of strength, and opportunity. We shouldn't cow down to progressives who want to turn us into a European style nanny state.

Let me rephrase it a different way.
Rights and feelings are directly related in how they are exercised.
How is that possible?
CJH, myself and a couple others are all military vets. Our level of training and comfort level for our personal safety lend to a much HIGHER level of "danger". Where we might only feel tense about the situation, could scare the hell out of another to the level of fear of great bodily harm or death.
That difference in feelings of danger is where our thresholds to react at whatever level we deem needed.
like-wise, a criminal HAS to accept a person for whom they are. Meaning, while I could take a blow to my face and a bloody nose, it would NOT be life-threatening to me. A hemophiliac would be likely facing a life or death situation. Because of our differences in health, our feelings of personal safety are highly different. I would never in this situation be entitled to use deadly force. A hemophiliac would.
After the latest go around with MacDonald and Heller, we would both be exercising our rights to self-defense. -
I myself, am also a combat vet. What you are discussing, is pertaining to use of force. Use of force is fairly simple. If you Percieve a threat to you or others, that in your eyes could cause serious bodily injury or death etc. this however has nothing to do with the RIGHT to protect yourself. You have that right no matter what. Even if it hurts someone else's feelings that you should have the means to defend yourself. Legally could that put you in a bind? Of course. But the military also instills in most a sense of values. Honor. To where you know to do the right thing no matter the ramifications. Just because some politician says we will always be safe if we are unarmed sheep, does not mean that we still don't need protection from the wolves.

Comrade MNDriver,,,I just don't see anywhere, in any of brsims post's that he was acting like his gun was his only way to defend himself. What gives brother? I think brsims, and I, agree with you to the point of being able to defend oneself before drawing a firearm. Unfortunately I am too busy in my life to go to an MMA class. I do the best I can and even Brock Lesnar is not going to be able to stop 3 or more attackers. Your right, the odds of me being attacked by someone, or robbed by someone, or my house getting broke into, is slim to none. But! I just feel foolish without it and believe me, I pray to God that I NEVER have to use it. I prefer to keep mine concealed. When some people see it, it causes tension for them which can cause a small headache for me. I carry a S & W .38 shorty... yep, not your normal .45 carry guy. I like it small and very concealable. The rounds I use are deadly and would do the trick, if need be. I respect your choice not to carry, and pray you never get into a situation where you wish you were carrying. Pray you don't have any problems at the dentist,,,you might wish you had carried there...lol
brsims Thanks this. -
I always tried to keep my truck and myself safe. What I usually do is lock my truck. So, if someone tried to get me, and open my door. Well, he/she will be scare because a loud horn will go off. Not tried to be rude to the other truckers, who are trying to sleep.
