I wondered if anyone would catch that! LOL
I carry my tire thumper, wasp spray and a husband. If one doesn't get ya the other two will.
mje Thanks this. -
What happened, did somebody steal your pointy stick?
mje Thanks this. -

Actually.....would you like to know the history of the pointy stick? One night I and a couple of women on this forum were a bit.......shall we say......"hormonal and bored". I posted something to the effect "I'm grumpy and think I'd like to jab some male with a stick".
It was a one time comment but people latched onto it and it gained a life of it's own.
outerspacehillbilly and mje Thank this. -
If someone wants my truck (and load), they can have it. That's why I have insurance. I don't carry a weapon, but I think the image of the average trucker is such that a non professional theif doesn't want to try us. The professional will have guns, attitude and backup. I don't want to challenge that. Just let them have it.
In the old days, when I first started driving, it was common for drivers to have a lot of cash to buy fuel. Now we count our change to see if we have enough for a coffee.
I don't think we're good targets. Better to go after a soccor mom in the minivan.mje and scottied67 Thank this. -
Well are we talking about other drivers ripping you off , or dispacthers giving you bad runs, or getting ripped out off by the lot lizards
, but yes if you park in a well lighted truckstop, i would say there nothen too worry about, if your one too do lot lizards and park on a dark street , too service them , then i say its your own fault for parking there, i never leave the shipper or rec without a seal of some sort, even they tell me its not requard too be on there, i feel i sign for it , so im respondly for it , so its gonna be locked up, i heard at crst while i was there, that drivers would go too ny city and as they leave a car would fowlling them and opean there doors and toss the vcrs out the back, i dont belive that story , but that classroom instructer was a good story teller,
far as i carry, i used to carry pepper spray called extrem x 15 power, i got some on my hands while refilling once and gave me third degree burns , dang i hate too get spray in face with stuff
Everett.
mje Thanks this. -
I`m more worried now about someone shooting at me from a distance,or dropping something from an overpass. With all the drugs out now who knows what could happen. Also with the way road maintenance has been scaled back,I watch for trees falling across the road.
As for someone confronting me personally I`ll just say its better to be prepared and not need it than the other way around.People are crazy.mje Thanks this. -
Right now I don't have any more than my Maglight and a tire thumper, along with a padlock that I put on the trailer if I have to overnight while there is a load in the trailer.
In about a year I will move to a more gun friendly state and become an O/O. At that point I'll get my CCP and carry my XD9 in the truck.mje Thanks this. -
I don't carry a firearm in the truck for two reasons: Trucks are easy to break into and I don't want my pistol used in a crime. There isn't enough space in a truck to draw and use a firearm effectively. By the time you have drawn your weapon, you are already injured or dead.
As I said, I only have a folding knife and a little training. It's all you really need. If you are so afraid of other people and think that around every corner lurks a mugger, rapist or killer, perhaps you should find another line of work. Or learn how to be nice to people. A look in the eye, a confident smile and a frendly greeting are, 99% of the time, the most effective crime deterrent known. The other 1% are either on drugs or so insane a firearm is going to be ineffective.
I don't want to be responsible for anyone getting hurt. That said, if someone comes after me and he or she does get hurt, I have already done everything I could to avoid it, as the guy with the broken arm found out. (It was upheld in court...the judge looked at him, looked at me and then snickered as he said, "Dismissed with prejudice." Meaning I could not be sued again. Of course, I wore a skirt and a long sleeved, flowery, lacy blouse into court.)
I am not against carrying a weapon. I am merely saying you don't actually need it.CondoCruiser, Everett, mje and 3 others Thank this.
