With all the danger out there do you guys keep anything to protect yourselves?

I think more people have been killed over $20 then have been killed for their truck or load. Being fairly new to this and growing up in the country, I have a stash gun in my truck. I spend most of my time in CA so having it leagally doesn't work, but the bigger cities still intimidate me when I'm parked.
