Took a load to sulphur, la yesterday I had a load that picked up in Houston so instead of deadheading the 140/mi let's see what's on the boards.....now I see why I never look they had loads posted for $100 yes $100 who ever in there right mind would ever consider moving a load 100 mi for that and wait on your money. I really don't like the fact that soon as you look a load up everyone sees where you are and starts calling about loads 150+ miles away I wouldn't mind if there calling about loads where I'm at but not that far out.
Had one call on a load out of New Orleans she says "I'm calling about your stepdeck in sulphur is that still available" yes it is
"do you have ramps"
yes i do
"thank god...I have a load in New Orleans going 780mi to South Carolina that needs ramps"
I say sorry but I've got a lot of local work moving right now and really don't want to go that far out
"it's only 780 miles and could drop tomorrow reload back and you wouldn't be gone but two days and could make $3,500"
I said ya i could take care of that load for you for that
She says" I'll even pay you $100 more for your deadhead"
I'm thinking great this is going to be easy money.....after doing all the paper getting set up I get the confirmation it's for $1,600+$100 deadhead= $1,700 all in I called back and said wait you told me $3,500 she says " no I told you you could make $3,500 in two days I'm paying $1,700 if you find one coming back that pays that your over $3,500"
I told her I would move it for $2,600 and she said I was crazy I keep my cool a lot but yesterday I lost it some brokers just don't get it, I wish I didn't have to deal with any of them but it ups my pay hauling back but man there hard to deal with....
With all the freight some brokers just don't get it

LOL you gotta love her mentaility, "you can possibly make up X amount , if you look for something to add to what Im paying you, you just might make money"
I also hate it when they ask me for a quote, I give them a # and they scream do you realize that's so and so a mile. Yes thanks don't need math lessons from you broker.blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
That's a good one. I've not had one go quite that far as to offer a game show rate (sorry, sounds like Monty Hall "you could win a new car!!"). Usually only brag about how much I can get on a reload, so I ask them to send that over too.
Broker: Oh, we don't have that reload.
Me: I see. Thanks for the offer, but no. -

Was doing some power only work at one point...got a call about an Atlanta, GA to somewhere in OK. Pretty good rate attached to it however now I am rolling the dice w/o a trailer which is a bigger gamble than with one. I said, what's the PO market looking like coming out of OK, broker replies, well I've never had a problem. I say, great send me a rate con for that rate going both ways in case I do not find anything and in the meantime you now have two days to find me a load coming back that you have never had a problem with. That was the end of the conversation.
