With all the hype about mandatory E-Logs how many of you drivers will leave the industry?

Not being able to edit a log is purely as the discretion of the carrier or entity in charge of them. Editing by the driver, in all cases but actual driving line 3 stuff, has always been allowed by regulation, and will still be allowed in the upcoming ELD mandate. Many entitles just "cover their bacon" by not allowing driver to edit a log entry.

Was thinking about this recently regarding the government's desire to reclassify lease O/O as employees. If lease O/O is not allowed full discretion under the regulation to edit a log in accordance with the regulation guidelines, there is the risk to the carrier that their lease O/O can be reclassified as employees and the subsequent IRS nightmare will follow. Obviously, this would not apply to company drivers.

    Let the games begin!

Because of the off-chance that I would have to cover someone else's route, not to mention 2 of the 4 days I work typically go to 14 hours. It's not to much that I prefer the e-logs for local stuff, just that I don't care either way on them since I'm paid hourly and guaranteed home every night.

Oh and the fact that there's no pressure from the company to do that "one more" load at the end of my shift. Done is done.

It's my belief! the ones screaming on "I run legal but E-logs is bad" truly don't run legal, and that's what they hate, again? it's just my belief

Your belief is wrong. I don't like the cost. I don't like the competition telling me that I have to increase my costs without ANY real benefit, just because it was the business decision THEY made. I don't like the fact that the government didn't properly study the matter, and implemented the "safety" mandate contrary to what the actual data showed. I don't like the fact that the executive branch doubles down on its agenda every time its desired policies are rejected by the courts. I don't like the fact that it records your location every hour, instead of only where you are when you change duty status. I could go on...there are a LOT of things that I don't like about the mandate. The ability to "fudge" actually ranks quite low on the list.

Unintended consequences. When Im tired, I nap. Sometimes its 15 minutes, sometimes I need 2 hours. With electronic logs, I may be getting close to my 14 hours so "I had better keep going"... When Im 100 miles from home, I have 90 minutes left on my 70 hours and can't keep my eyes open, what should I do? Now I just stop and sleep, but next year... You guessed it! Im gonna drive with my head rolling back and my eyes closed because I'm not stopping an hour from home if it means spending 34 hours 75 miles from my house.

Well, if you had put as much effort into finding a solution as you did pitching a fit, you would have known you wouldn't have to sit out away from home. If like some of us who are in e-logs know and do, we have arranged various locations to drop a trailer, take a short nap if needed, and bob tailed on home OFF DUTY and complete the 34 at home. I use OFF DUTY frequently for short bobtail jaunts to and from the house. It is legal, and still so under new ELD mandate as per pages 308-310 of the published mandate. I set the e-log, type in a short comment about what I am doing, and go home. Been audited with no problems, even been checked by LEO roadside while doing it, no citations for doing so in over 3 decades.

Civil violation? Reassess that one, exactly what else is a civil violation to you.

Yeah, good luck "finding a place to drop a trailer" thats 15' wide 130' long and loaded with a multi-million dollar satellite or jet engine. Or a tanker with haz-mat in it, have you ever tried to park a 200,000 load in L.A. for a weekend? Maybe if I owned 50 trucks, 100 trailers and hauled sea containers to a port every day... We're not all monkeys holding steering wheels hauling 53' dry vans. Thats why guys like me are so mad about this, we're being treated like the rest of you Swift drivers and not being acknowledged for our ability to perform at the 101% and above level on a consistent basis.

So you take those loads home with you,, one past you say you aren't stopping an hour from home the you go on about super loads. When ya pull those you got a bit more sense than to run out of time, and you know that
