With all the hype about mandatory E-Logs how many of you drivers will leave the industry?

If the elog mandate isn't held up in the courts I will be gone. 45 years with a driver's license, 32 of those 45 in a big truck and only 1 moving violation. A dumb ##### in a 4 wheeler couldn't see me ( a fully loaded flatbed pulled by a hood with a 60" sleeper) while making a u-turn (legally) on a 4 lane divided highway. Just recently. Also the loss of civil liberties just because I drive a truck is really pi***** me off. The ACLU would be all over this if a burger flipper had a gps up his butt or a camera on him while at work.

Well said about the loss of civil liberties. CDL holders are the only workers who can legally have their HIPPA rights violated by their employer. The whole thing about trucking companies getting a copy of your DOT physical long form. No other industry would get away with it!

If you're gonna quit why not just keep breaking your ELD until they fire you anyway
Extend the paper logs a little bit longer

    Never.
Getting ready to sell my 379 and buy a 386. The freight I book can be run on paper, or ELD. Trip planning will just have to be more thought out. Business as usual.

So because I made a comment about liking running elogs and since I am retired law enforcement. I was contacted by a mod about being a retired Trooper shouldn't make reference to imply I was running illegal because of what I use to do. The same can be read into this post. How is this fair to any members?

Idc. All that matters is the profit at the end of the day. If I can't make the profit I want I am going else where. Simple as that.

And that is the crux of the issue. It doesn't matter if it is owning a truck, a restaurant, or a factory. Regulations are heaped upon everyone in business to the extreme. One can go elsewhere, but the effect will be the same. Work for someone else? Well, the reason they can't pay any better than they do, is that they buried up to their neck in regulations also and so much money that could be used to pay employees gets eaten up staying compliant with EPA, IRS, DOL, DOT, EEOC, etc. If someone is paying you $10 a hour, it is actually costing them double that to keep you on the payroll.

Key point is..... I know this has been beaten around before, and people are so frustrated with the powers that be that they want to throw their hands up and quit, but this is an election year, and a majorly important one at that. We have some choices to make. We won't stop all of this nonsense dead in its tracks, as it takes more than a football field to turn an aircraft carrier around. But we can shuffle things up and start to get this under control. Else, the alternative is we become a total Fascist state. It is crunch time, folks. Time to take stock in what you want for a country, where we have come from, and where we seem to be going.

It is amazing the way history rewrites itself. Government of the people, by the people, for the people, - long gone in this country.

Cowpie1 Your post came up as I was typing mine. Well said. I almost never vote for the incumbent. It is so sad that so many people don't see what is going on. Unfortunately that that makes being a career crook (politician) so much easier.
