When 9/11 was happening in real time I heard about it first relayed on the cb before the fm radio station said anything or an over the air emergency announcement was made. But that was a time when almost every truck had one and they used them.

I'm referring to emergency communications mainly. But I get what you're saying too.

I've known a few guys with Ham radios in their trucks. Don't get all of the crap there like with a CB radio.

Yeah, nor stuff like "your door's open and cargo's falling out" or "your rear wheel is coming off" or "northbound, big wreck ahead, take route XX." :)

That's why you have a CB, and say a Kenwood TM271A VHF radio.

    Meteorgray and jason6541 Thank this.

I would love more activity on the cb. I keep it on all the time, to listen if someone is trying to tell me if there's something wrong with my truck, or if roads conditions ahead are dangerous, and to do the same for others.
What you're talking about though... I have thoughts on it. If you want to discuss something immoral or illegal, and get an account shut down for it, that's not censorship. If you want to yell fire in a crowded theater and get removed, that's not censorship. So, now you've decided that you want to go discuss this thing, whatever got you removed... on a public frequency, that by the way police frequently monitor... that's just a bit on the idiot side.
Using CBS in an actual emergency where say, the phone system goes down or becomes ovetwhelmed... that would make us heroes, which is another reason to keep the cb system alive and working. Using it to cuss out drivers is not a good reason.

To add to that, I just happened to buy a new cb today. Included were the laws concerning cb radio communication. Subpart d, rule 95, cb rule 13 - 95.413 lists the kinds of communications that are not allowed. 95.421 rule 21 lists the penalties for violations including fines of $10,000 and possible year in jail. So, read those rules before you plan illegal activities.
