Are you leased on with a carrier or do you have authority you run on?
Is the $1.80 rate including deadhead miles?
    Just curious

I lease onto a carrier. I do very little deadhead. I run to to L.A. drop & hook in the same location, or, deliver and drive 30 or so miles back to my hook sight. I drop in Eugene and drive home 70 miles and reload in my hometown in the morning.

I got it pretty good, I have to admit. However, if someone has a line on how I can gross $3.00 a mile, be home 3 nights a week and not knock myself out, I'm all ears ;-)

  4. Morning folks,
I now have a plan to make it back to Oklahoma so that I can return my semi to JCT. I've had a few people with JCT call me over the course of the last few days inquiring about my decision to leave. I think it's funny how a few people tried to make me feel like I've been 'wronged'. In fact, the VP Shannon, sent me a qc message telling me to call him so that I can "explain to him how I feel I've been wronged." It's psych 101. Making you feel like you're the one with the issue not the company. I called him and explained how I don't feel like I've been wronged, how I'm not a victim, how I decided early in the summer that my time with JCT is nearing completion and how I just finally made a decision as to where I want to sign on with. At this point, like someone has already mentioned, 90cpm isn't getting it done for MY situation. Understand, I'm not saying that JCT is a bad program. I'm saying at this stage in my career, I'm hungry and I want a bigger piece of the pie. I won't allow the comfort of where I'm at overshadow the fact that I'm not making the kind of money that I used to make with JCT. On a transitional note, It looks like I'll need to get into a concentra facility to do a pre-employment urinalysis. I was told by the road runner recruiter Doug that it HAS TO BE concentra. Will have to try and get it done today in portland, or tomorrow or saturday in salt lake city. Aloha...

There's a Concentra facility out on Airport Rd in Portland, pretty close to Jubitz. You could probably drop your trailer there and bobtail to Airport Rd.

    HAWAIIANTHRIVER and Wickedfire77 Thank this.
  6. Copy that. There may be another option to get it done at a different facility. I check with them in the a.m.

  7. I apologize, but this will be a long post.

So A and A Express in Brandon, SD is owned by Road Runner. The confusion that I've had leading up until this morning was that Road Runner has a certain process for new hires and A and A Express has a certain process. To sum it up, Road Runner is pretty strict on where you can go to do a pre-employment drug screen and they want all new hires to get a dot physical at the same time regardless of whether or not yours is still valid...at least that has been my experience. Furthermore, the Road Runner recruiters name is Doug, he seems cool, but then again I get a long with most people, he tells me to call A and A Express to see if they can set up the drug screen at somewhere a little more convienant to get into. Sue and Dan at A and A were all over it and set me up in the town I live in and I was able to get to the clinic earlier today while doing the 2 part of my split. They don't need me to update my dot physical, mine expires 1-2017. So I get on the phone with JCT'S planner for the Oklahoma area, he and I get along really well, I've even golfer with him a few times, and he sets me up to drop my Ochelata load that delivers Monday at 1017am. So now, I can't get to Sapulpa, OK (JCT Terminal) soon enough. I figured out my eta to Sapulpa to be about 9 or 10 am Sunday and I call Sue at A and A and tell them that I can travel Sunday now instead of Monday. My flight was booked shortly thereafter. I now depart Tulsa around 4pm and arrive in Sioux Falls around 9 pm sunfay. I begin Orientation on Monday at 0900. I already have a truck picked out. A Volvo 730 that will cost me 600weekly. I don't know what my fixed cost will be yet, I'll let you all know when I get a chance. I intend to be 100 % transparent. Aloha

Wow. 600 a week for just the truck? Then again , it's under warranty and has bells and whistles.
    Good luck!

Nothing wrong with that as long as the other numbers support it. Maybe the OP will post up his business model that he used to justify his move.

  10. For sure. My current business numbers with JCT. $0.90 a mile loaded and empty. Fuel surcharge based on national average for all miles. $0.21. I make $1.11 this week at JCT. Minus $0.21 per mile for truck payment and minus $0.08 per mile for maintenance account. Leaves me $0.82 pre fuel and press tax. You can run your own numbers from here, but I keep anywhere from $0.35 to $0.39 when the fuel prices are this low and surcharge reflects that. This is what justifies the move.

Fuel prices shouldn't be dictating a move ... if that is all it is nothing is going to change.

More importantly ... beside truck payment, what other expenses are you going to be taking on? ... JCT, from what I've gathered pretty much covers everything - IFTA, tolls, washouts, scales ... etc.

AA on the other hand ... not so much. A lot of those expenses may now be coming out of your pocket. And I don't believe AA pays for empty miles ... that extra overhead has to be accounted for.

Not saying this isn't a good move for you. But, I don't see where you really laid this out and thought it all through. The numbers should be right at your fingertips.

Your issue with the fuel surcharge in particular is troublesome. Yes the FSC has been going down. But, it has become much easier to find fuel prices way below the national average. Last year my fuel cost was $.20 below the national average ... this year I've been able to keep it at $.29 below the national average ... that equates to roughly and extra $.015 per mile to my bottom line
