There have been a few drivers that have quit recently because they are going to electronic logs. There is mixed feelings on how this will effect the pay drivers are getting. Not many drivers like the electronic logs because it takes away most of your freedom to stop when you want or need to for that matter. They are in a pilot program currently but eventually all drivers will be going to electronic logs. They are trying to get the bugs worked out. In my opinion it is still a good company to work for, they have nice equipment which they keep updated and serviced very well. If you live in the area and like the fact you can be home every (most of the time) weekend you can't beat Witte. Every company has there problems it is up to you which ones you want to put up with!! There starting pay is a little low compared to other companies but the miles are pretty steady which can be a problem with some companies. It doesn't matter what you make per mile if you aren't getting any!

Well with any job there are those that like it and those that don't. You can stop by the yard on a Friday and see drivers coming in for the weekend and talk to them directly. Most of our drivers like working here. We are treated fairly. We only have a limited number of trucks empty at the moment, yes due to some quitting and some terminations. The economy has hurt all trucking companies to some degree, and witte was no different. Things are starting to pick back up and they are looking to fill those empty trucks however, if experianced, you must have a good work record, and if not you will have to go to our school and our training program. Hope this helps.

First of all if this is something you want to do then best of luck.I would suggest if you have time before you sign the dotted line.pack your clothes in your car a cooler, toiletries, etc.Go to your job then to a truck stop/rest area for the remainder of your time.sleep, wakeup, and do it all over again DO NOT GO HOME only phone conversations do not see your family/friends do this for a couple weeks then see how ya feel just a thought goodluck whatever choice you make.

That is a very good idea. This job is not for everyone. The guys with young kids at home usually don't make it past the first year because it is very hard being away from your family and Friends. But then there are other guys that like being away from there family!! I am new to trucking and I committed to give it a year and then re-evaluate then. There are days when I really enjoy it and others that I hate but that is with most jobs. The starting pay is what was hard for me to adjust to, when you are not making much it makes it harder to like what you are doing. You will not know if you like it or not until you go out and do it yourself. There is not much you can do to prepare yourself and talking to other drivers and reading the posts here will just confuse the issue. The biggest issue for me is the hours, one day your delivering in the afternoon and the next day you might be delivering at night. There is no set schedule out here and if you can't sleep just about anytime of the day it is hard. I say go for it and have fun while you are out there, it is all about what you make it!! It might open up another door in the future once you get some experience.

Apparently they are still looking for drivers. I have a phone interview set up with them in the morning. I haven't driven since 97 but have been seriously concidering going back OTR. They seem to be one of the less hated companys on these boards from what I can tell anyway. Just have to see what they say. Thanks for all the info.

I just sent an application their way. Just graduated from college and can't get a job in my field at the moment and have always wanted to try it. Hopefully I hear something and can get rolling before my loan payments pop up in December.
