There is a lot of uneducated speculation in this thread. The GA bill was originally meant for log trucks only. Not sure how everyone else got lumped in. It’s currently legal for log trucks to gross 88,000 in the state. Florida and Alabama allow 92,000 I think. The loggers who are cutting timber in Georgia destined for mills in Florida or Alabama are at a disadvantage. That’s how this whole thing got started. Somehow special interest groups probably from agricultural and aggregate industries have seem to gotten all trucking included in the bill.

Right now you can permit up to 115k on 5 axles in TN. They will permit up to 23k per axle. You just have to drive a little different.

Kansas was 85,500 max for years as long as you stayed off interstates. Then a few years ago the dairy industry lobbied for 90k gross on 6 axles for ag products. It went through so 90k on 6 axles became the norm for livestock and hoppers but the majority of milk tanks are still just running 5 axles. They lobbied and are now getting their inbound feed loads and livestock loads moved heavier but are still moving their milk for a decent rate at 80k gross.

For everyone saying "well you can permit things for x weight." Yes thats absolutely true, but those of you that are buying your own vehicles from new spec them for what and how you haul, permitted rate be *darned* pulling at the absolute capacity of your equipments capabilities is not going to increase its longevity. Loading cycles will fatigue components way faster that way

In reefer world we run out of room before we run out of weight with a few exceptions. Most of my loads are 25-35k.

There's a fair amount of drivers here that can't comprehend this .. they have no clue what your talking about when you say rate per100#
I ve see it for 30+ years .. and the very 1st thing they will ask you is .... [ How much is that a mile ? ] then they get pissed off when you can't answer their stupid question

We have a few good customers that the min rate is as if its 40k, on a 100# weight. But then we have to bid things for anything under 200 miles as well. Best thing is they actually give a realistic fsc too. Steel on flats, not reefer, but same principle.
