Leasing a new truck with an option to purchase (or walk away from) would seem to be a way to mitigate some of the risk. IMO, any amount of extended idling is bad for an emissions engine.

The way I operate a lease is not something I would consider. I've been doing this with a payed for truck long enough,I would much rather put that lease payment in my bank account.

The point is, if you buy a total lemon it can bankrupt you. Leasing an emissions truck would allow you to walk away from it with no financial penalty.

That's why I will not buy a emissions truck. For me the best rates are within 700 miles of home. We have some good paying ltl going to Cali. But it would take 2.5 years of trouble free running for me to justify buying a new truck. I run 2500 miles or less a week, home every other day. Just can't see getting into a new truck, just to say I drive a new truck. My old girls not pretty but the money she makes is just as green as any new truck.

My point is,there any number of things that can go out without warning and very untimely.I have almost always worked where a shop was present and had no need too know.
Save your money you will surely need it.

No kiddin'! And putting it off due to lack of money just leads to a larger repair bill down the road.

The trucking industry is truly a sad state.
With the ongoing fleece purchase. (Who are used to undercut real O/O)
To the independent contractor farce. (Dodging taxes via 1099)
To the saddest of all, contract port work.
The TTR cheerleaders will be along to dispel my post.
