Gotcha! Thanks, Dino soar! My Dad always told me that the beginning of the rain is a dangerous time, but I never heard that about the leaves. Good to know!

I try to always check my mirrors and look around at other vehicles and plan for what they may do. Something tells me I will not be speeding in a big truck tho lol. And when I see people I will go even slower. Glad to know that the top drivers make it a habit to exit the truck when they're parking.

The safe distance thing is big with me. I can't tell you how often a big truck has come up behind my vehicle and was thisclose to me.

    Thanks again!

    Thank you for that, '88K100!

I guess after a while the muscle memory that people mentioned on here kicks in and you get used to what to press, etc. I don't know, I'm thinking I'll still keep some mindfulness when I'm out there. From where I am now, I can't imagine getting that comfortable lol.

Keep the perspective that trucking is not a profession nor a recognized trade, so really not much of a challenge and requiring only the most basic reading and math skills. I can’t imagine anyone not being able to master driving “a large car”
    Good Luck

Drive you trailer not the truck when backing up.
I pick a fixed object when possible and watch the back of the trailer to see what way it needs to go. Then constant little adjustments to keep her stright.
And for goodness sake "Get Out And Look".

I'm not that great at backing up but I've never hit anything. If it takes me an extra few minutes or more who cares? I didn't hit anything.

Go to school. If after 8 months your bf can't figure out what your doing wrong and how to explain it to you then he simply isn't the right teacher for you. No fault or judgment that's just a fact.

Not sure I agree. I try to be not only mindful of my vehicle but all the ones around me, I maintain not only best driving practices but also ego restraint and good manners. I'm the one who moves the extra lane so the mindless driver at the last minute has room to avoid the truck on the shoulder, I'm the one who makes extra room for the impatient onramp driver, I hold the extra following distance because of the tailgater behind me. I slow and pull back in behind the truck I want to pass if I'm gathering too many irrational drivers behind me threatening the safety of ALL of us on the road...
Maybe the mindless drivers are safe because others compensate for their simpleminded behavior.

    Thank you, '88K100!

Uh-oh. I'm not a math person, so I guess I'll have to brush up on that particular skill.

It's crazy to think trucking isn't thought of as a profession or trade. I mean, a special license is required, so one would think it would fit one of those categories.

Thank you, scott180!! That's a good idea to pick something to look at while backing up. I'm sure it does help. I'll make sure to get out and see where I'm going. That is a very popular suggestion and with good reason, obviously.

    Appreciate your reply.
