Most of the behavior that gives the industry a bad name is out on the hyways and byways. The more you drive a truck, the more you will notice. Much of it is probably due to poor instruction, bad examples and just new drivers rushing without considering their actions. But then, you will see older drivers running recklessly as well. Takes a lot of self control and character. Patience will be your biggest friend and one of most important things to keep you safe.

Everyone makes mistakes though. Just hope they are not the ones that hurt yourself or others. I know several guys that have between 3 and 6 million miles and they all have their stories. Only by God's grace any of us.....

    No doubt.

People and their phones will try the patience of St. Teresa, like how you catch up to one crawling along at 5 mph under the speed limit only to have them suddenly wind it up to 20+ as soon as you appear on their left side.

So will going a bit under the speed limit bother other truckers behind me?

People have a hard time driving even without the distraction of a phone lol.

Gotcha, Stone Express. Thank you. I hope I'd always take my time and be safe, not sorry. Patience really does make a difference.

I can't imagine getting into a wreck and causing an injury or fatality. That would be the worst. Even taking things slow and being careful, things happen. Like you said.

3 million to 6?? Wow. About how many years does that take to achieve?

For an OTR Driver, full time, figure approximately 120,000 miles per year. 8-10 years to turn 1,000,000 miles.

Not at all if that’s the pace you want to run and you’re consistent with it. Where people get upset is when they catch up to somebody going slow, and all of a sudden the slow one finds his pedal as soon as he pulls out to pass.

And there's 1 of the girl things you can leave behind. Doesn't matter if it makes them happy or sad, late or whatever. Not your problem. The front truck will be slow because of the governor, the crappy engine, the heavy load, the stupid driver, it doesn't matter why, doesn't matter if you are the front truck or the following truck. We all get to play the game in both positions and develop the patience.
Think like a man. Focus on your own thing and disregard everyone else's opinions...

Don't mean that to come off snarky I'm dead serious. This is not a team event, there's no points for being considerate. Dont be inconsiderate, ie rude or dangerous, but you will speed up and slow down so slowly that you literally can't afford to modify your speed to help out another driver and you shouldn't drive uncomfortably fast to appease them.
Remember that no matter how much they piss and moan, your trailer on its side across the road will REALLY slow them down, so work at your own pace. I used to concern myself with the other guys but if it wears you out like it did me, and by the time you are parking at the end of the day, and you're so spent that you're a hazard in the truck stop...nah. not worth it.
Like the kids say, you do you bae...lol

    Well, that's good to hear.

Guess some people's egos can't handle getting passed.

    Thanks, MACK E-6.
