Okay, you've analyzed it and decided it's not your first choice for a retirement lifestyle.
Apparently, though, beating dead horses is much more to your liking. Unfortunatelty, you are not too precise with that whip, as I have seen it applied to others who are getting started and seem to be doing the right thing despite obstacles they have overcome.
I wish you success in whatever you choose to do. -

But I won't argue it with you either way. I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything; whether you think trucking is great or that it sucks, it makes no difference to me either way. I made my call, you can make yours.
I won't be around long because I have other things to get after. I'll leave it to you and others who've gone out and done it to "apply that whip precisely". I think it's all good information for anyone to read and make their own decision.
Good luck out there on the road! -
My first year was tough but I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the country. My second year, I learned to hate the job and easily quit. After bouncing around jobs, the road was always calling me back. After a few years and realizing other jobs had their downfalls too, I went back and haven't looked back. I've realized the learning the business part is the hardest part. You live in a closed world and when you go trucking your eyes open to all different cultures and have to learn to deal with it. You have to reprogram your way of thinking of sorts. Once you get past that it's a piece of cake and it stays in your blood. Many are too quick to judge and they don't make it through the initial stages. Some think you have to fall into a certain mold. But you don't. You can always be yourself and be successful at the job. It's like any job. You learn it and then you perfect it learning all the shortcuts. Stuff that makes you mad, you learn how to deal with it where it doesn't make you mad anymore.
I don't know many jobs you can do pretty much what you want. You can take a break when you feel like it. You're not looking at the same machine day in and day out. You wanna quit, you walk next door and get a job. There's no commuting to work, lol. You get to meet so many new people and watch the strange and unexpected. Everyday is a new adventure. The job is definately not boring.
This forum is a great tool, but of course you hear the worst and the best. There is a whole lot of in between out there. One has to figure out what they love to do. Then figure out how to make money doing it. Then you will be happy.Last edited: Jan 30, 2011

I wasn't referring to your information in this thread, but, rather, the lash placed (misplaced?) in another.

NoWayNoHow Thanks this. -
The other was about the poor (Swift) trainee claiming various degrees of abuse at the hands of his trainer. There was some gallows humor being thrown around, and I joined in for a bit, but I really wasn't trying to be serious. I can see where it may have rubbed you the wrong way though. Be assured I don't have anything against the company or the drivers. -
BTW, during my carney years in my youth we used to run at the little town celebration over there in New Ulm; I don't remember what it was called, but I do remember it tended to turn into a huge townwide binge! Fueled by Schell's beer as I recall.
