Yup, they hire new drivers from cdl mills,,,, then the new driver goes with a company trainer for a month or so, then turned loose.
Woo-hoo!! Pre-hired with GTI

Hottub-I'm attending the PTDI certified course at Vincennes University. The program is 8 weeks long and costs about $2000 less than any of the "cdl mills" in my area. Plus, a lot more companies hire from this type of school than a cdl mill.

Well not all companys hire from colleges. There are some bad schools out there and some good ones. My instructors are really great and know how to teach new truckers, especially ones who requires a little more attention. They're not a "cdl mill". They help you get app's and maybe interviews but do not guarantee anyone a job with a company. The problem with colleges is that the class is very long and a lot of people don't have that much time....They need a job now. If if takes you 2 months or more to learn how to drive a truck....maybe you shouldn't be driving one...just my 2 cents.

I also got pre hired the other day and I was told that I was in the top 30% and that you had to be or you aren't considered. I still have to go to school that is at a local community college that is a 10 week course and maintain a 80% scores. He said that he knew the instructor Maybe I will get to meet you sometime. I won't be out of school until April 24.

Chase-Will you be driving out of the midwest fleet for GTI? That's where I assume I will be driving. Which recruiter did you work with? Mine is Rick Dutra. He knows the administrator at the school that I'm going to.
Nicnat- The length of the school that I'm going to has nothing to do with me needing that much time to learn how to drive a truck. I drove 6 years ago and I know I could get behind the wheel right now and drive down the road, but that doesn't mean that I would be able to pass all of the testing. My main reason for choosing the school that I did was because it is a better, more complete training program than you get from CDL mills. Sure, cdl mills teach you what you need to know, but they also cost a lot more than the courses offered by community colleges. Most of my tuition is being paid for by the state. I have to pay about $900 out of pocket, which to me is a lot better than getting a high-interest loan for $6000+.Last edited by a moderator: Feb 12, 2009

I agree that a more thorough class would be a better choice then some of these Cdl mills...but like here in Vegas, we don't have much of a choice because our local college dropped their course 4 yrs ago. We have my school and 1 other one and that's it. The other one is a 20 week course...And thank god I didn't have to pay $6000 for school...my wife would have died!!!! I have read where some guys paid that much...that's just crazy.
I'm sure where ever you get trained at, it depends on how much you apply yourself....

Chase- I start classes on March 9th. I haven't determined my grad date exactly yet, but it should be early May, then I'll be headed to Green Bay for orientation with GTI.

My grad date should be right at the first of May I believe. Assuming I'm looking at the calendar correctly. What's your name and I will look for you at orientation? Mine is Josh .
