I have to give Cali a thumbs up on that suggestion. Oakley would be a great to start. Do they hire newbs?

You're 3 years vs 10 years won't be an issue if you start looking NOW.

If you need information from the IRS you need to make the request NOW !!! It can take 90+ days for you to get. Been there done that.

I know when I was asked for 10 years..I was like DUH! "Lady, I do good to remember my own name each morning" ;)

FYI, some companies will look the other way while you just write some stuff down for the back seven. At least they do around here with the locals. I'm sure the larger ones want to grind you up.

Do they want proof of 10 years past work history (ie w2 forms) or do they want refrences? what if someone was self employed, and out of work for a while due to an injury, recovered, and can pass a dot physical?

An answer to this question would help me also.

I have been self employed in construction for 25 years, so I have no W-2s, only 1099's. Can I use the 1099's as proof of self-employment?
Can I use the companies who sent me 1099's as refernces?

Don't think my tax returns are any of their business. Would like to not go that route. Thanks....

While CDL Mills might only require 3 year work history to apply for school, Federal Law requires a COMPLETE 10 year work history to get a job driving INTERSTATE.

If you only have 3 years experience you must STILL provide a 10 year work history. If you were an O/O during that time, this information MUST be included in your 10 year work history.
If you AREN'T OLD ENOUGH to have a 10 year work history, you MUST include this information as well.

You simply state: "Self Employed between XXXX and XXXX" You wouldn't necessarily need to show proof. I have NEVER been asked for "proof" of employment at the companies I put on my application.

It is simple, the "Work History" requested ONLY covers the PREVIOUS 10 years whether you were employed or not.
    Example:
    Jan 2006-Present
    ABC Company
    (address, phone number, contact person)

    July 2000-Oct 2005
    BCD Company
    (address, phone number, contact person)

    Nov 1999-July 2000
    Self Employed

    Feb 1995-Nov 1999
    CDE Company
    (address, phone number, contact person)

I THEY ASK: you can "fill in the spaces" by saying: "Oct 2005 to Dec 2005- injury recovering, unemployed or whatever.

That not what the regulation states but close. You have to provide a 10 year history of commercial driving and I would guess 3 years of non commercial driving. HOWEVER, the company may ask for 10 years no matter what type of job and that's their choice. That's at §383.35 of the FMCSR.

I suggest that all drivers especially the students to get a copy of the little green book known as the FMCSR pocketbook and read it when you can. It's much better to quote a requirement and ask questions about it if you are confused because some of the regs are confusing. There's no sense in guessing.
