I saw my accountant last year and he was yelling how I can be in trucking business not having workers comp.
This year, same story... - You are irresponsible not covering your driver, when you will get an audit you will be in trouble etc.
So, long story short - I bought Workers Compensation Insurance NJ ( i'm based in NJ) Paid around $10,000
But one interesting thing, when I got my policy I see that my driver is covered just in New Jersey, at that time when he spends in NJ 3 hours on Monday
and 4 hours on Friday, the rest time he hauls all over USA.
Conclusion- I'm paying 10K for nothing.
Am I silly? Maybe I don't know something? Could be that other WC Insurances cover other states including base state?
On one truck I don't make millions to cover each state separately.
Any suggestions, information, criticism will be appreciated !

Need an all states policy. Did they put you in a pool or are you buying direct?
-
They put me in a pool. Got Liberty Mutual

The pool may not have an all states policy. Talk to your agent.

I need to get workers comp insurance. I dont know how much it cost and for some reason I feel im getting ripped off Im the only driver and its my company can anyone tell me how much is this gonna cost??? please dont tell me 10 stacks per year...

Depends on the state that your company is based and your payroll salary. For example if my driver makes $ 60,000 for state of NJ the WC Rate is 13%, so I must pay 7,800 a year. Plus, state of NJ has Second Injury Plan and insurance agent fee and financing fee in total gonna be around 10-12K. But you MUST be on payroll. If you are on 1099 if something will happen on the road, insurance will reject the claim because you are not employee. So, basically you will pay for nothing. Because of this WC I did not sleep a lot of nights and gathered some information. Fell free to ask

your either in business for all the expenses that incurs
or your fly by night operation might as well pay the employee in $20's
and not file taxes anyway
my buddy drives on a 1099 gets $.44/mile
I get $.42/mile on W2 medical ins life ins dental 401k
let me get a calculator see who is better off
in another words if your going to be an employer be a responsible boss to a employee
or just drive your own truck by yourself
