Thailand is cheap living. Lots of truckers spend time in Thailand, Philippines, and a few of us in China. Cheap; very cheap!

I see no reason I can't make at least 40 thousand in 6 months of working as a o/0 .

I can do my own wrenching including drivetrain rebuilding. I have 99 percent of the tools I would need and I am fully capable of constructing a shop to keep my truck in.

I have earned very little money the last 6 years and still have managed to travel and eat and drink to my content while maintaing a house and nice vehicle.

    It's a lifestyle.

Thailand is cheap even with all the good things you would want to do over there .

Sailing is cheap if you stay out of the marinas and spend your nights on the hook. Put the boat on a trailer in the backyard when I am not sailing it.

First couple years I would probably work my summers also so I could fully fund rebuilding my truck. Most likely I would not truck but run a parasail boat for the summer to take a break and in the right location I can make a killing in just a few months.

I have no desire to buck the system and try to truck January to the end of March . With Limited freight and bad weather along with poor milage it just doesn't make sense to run if you don't have to.

You could make that, but it wont be easy. How are you going to keep your contracts and keep your customers happy when you are gone?

    Nice

Take it you are a fellow sailor Avenger.

I grew up sailing all over the Great Lakes back in the 70 s on my dads 48 foot S&S. Yawl . Home port was Holland Michigan.

Most likely I would lease onto mercer or landstar as there seem to be many people with them that are working part time.

My Ace in the hole if I have MY own Authority is one of my dear friends of 30 years has owned his own 4 man freight brokerage company for 25 years.

He has been my biggest naysayer on driving a truck but says if I want to do it ,take a year and prove my self and he will be glad to throw as much good paying freight as I want .

that I am. my avatar is my boat. little 19 O' Day. I also sail my friends 23 and another buddy's 44. have to admit at 44 ft there isn't much "sailing" to do.

I live about an hour from lake mich

I have family in SW florida as well
I have had the same dreams as you as far as working part of the year. and traveling the rest. used to drive for a guy who had paid cash for an old pete. it's amazing how little you can live on when you aren't chasing payments.

Even big boats seem like a waste to me, especially if you are not using them or living and traveling n them.
I have a few friends that live on their boats at a nice little marina in fort Myers beach about a half hour away from where I live in naples.

The boat in my avatar is a Baron 18 that my brother designed and we built 13 of them before we sold the molds to Powerquest and they started their boat building company with them in 82. I still own it mostly for sentimental reasons.

My sailboat is a trailer able hunter 23. It has to get me by until I get the time and resources to build a little folding 32 foot catamaran that can be trailered.

I refuse to be a prisoner of a boatyard for maintenance and storage.

Small boats are so much more fun and affordable.

Where in SW Florida is your family?
