So it's been a while since I started a new thread, but I got my papers today and come middle of next month tentatively, I am switching over to the road drivers board at my company. In March it will be 7 years and some opportunities came up and I'm going to be on the transit drivers board for Gordon Food Service which back in the day was a pretty big job and big deal for GFS employees. GFS used to be very proud of their line haul staff way back when.
Anyhow, after almost 7 years of case of case throwing some retirements came through and some runs were added and it was now or never and I decided to put in my bid and I got the job. I've always liked the road work and road stuff better then case throwing, but whatever it is what it is. I like the transit stuff the best. Volume stuff with the 50fts making deliveries to bulk customers is okay I don't totally mind that, but the shuttle runs are the best. It is doubles work.
So a lot of set ups, break downs reset ups, break downs rebuilds and break downs again, but it's alright.

Anyhow this won't be a big thread, because most of you know what it's all about already, but I can post some experience here, it's a little bit different then LTL line runs, but not to to much.

Couldn’t subscribe to this fast enough. I always like your posts. I did linehaul for PFG back in the day it was great. Leave St. Louis at like 4 pm and met Chicago in Dwight IL. Drop, swap and boogie back. It wasn’t even TRUE over night when I did it I was back at like midnight so it didn’t screw up my sleep or weekend schedule much. Good deal man, good for you hope you like it.

Well, it's a job most road drivers would kill for, I'm afraid you are going to find it's incredibly boring. You literally do the exact same thing, over and over. I realize, all truck driving has an element of repetition( I once hauled 26 loads of gravel from one side of a pit to the other,,THAT was a long day) but you may rotate to different drop places, but not much variety. The plus side, you can have a respectable home life, with predictable home times, maybe even a hobby or 2, if that's an issue, it was for me but one thing for sure, and probably the most gratifying, with GFS, you'll have a job until you die. Good luck, sounds great.

We go A to B, B to C, C back to B and B back to A. There’s a few different runs every night. But you’ll learn about linehauling for a good company which isn’t talked about as much on boards like this.Another Canadian driver and Lonesome Thank this. -
