    When direct hooking, which to my understanding is you hook both ends of your securement device to the same side of the trailer, you cut the weight in half of whatever you are carrying. Nowi also hear people say when you go across load to other side of trailer, you divide load in half.. to be on the safe side I am securing everything to the weight of the load.. but I am spending allot of time messing around.. can I get some clarification on that explained in a way that my simple self can understand.... Thanks brother

    From one side of the load to the trailer thats indirect 1/2 wll.securement over the load to both sides thats direct WLL.
    The way i've being doing it 80%weight to keep the load from going forward 50% backward 20% upward.
    U gotta have a strap every 10 linear feet regardless of the weight.
    Also the WLL to consider is the weakest one on your securement

    Ok, let me try a story problem.. if I have a 30k plate of steel, I will be strapping with a strap from the driver's side and connecting it to the passenger side. I need to provide 15000 lbs of securement as long as I am good with the every ten feet rule 2 to be legal. That would be 3 5400lb straps.. but 80% is 24k lbs, so I would throw 2 more just to be safe.. does that sound right?

    Thats what i would do but instead of two extra straps i will put two chains,starps Wont keep the load from sliding but chain will bite into the metal and stops ur load from moving.u have to verify with the shipper if u can use chains

    Load to trailer is direct. Trailer to load to trailer is indirect.
    You need a strap for every 10' of length but, the strap doesn't have to be every 10', except for the first and the penalty. If you have no bulkhead you need a penalty strap. That must be within the first 10' of the load.

    The penalty strap is no matter what.

    Anything exceeding 5' or 1100lb's requires a min of 2 straps, from there the written rule is,

    2 straps for the first 10' and 1 for every subsequent 10' or portion there of.

    10'=2 straps
    11-20=3
    21-30=4
    Ect... and wll may increase your required securement

    You sure on the penalty? The way I understand it a qualifying bulkhead removes the penalty strap requirement.
