I'm thinking about getting out of OTR for a while. Problem is I don't want to limit my options to my home CDL state (a no income tax state). Can I get a local job in another state without having to get a new CDL?

What's the longest I could work that job before being required to change residency/cdl?

Some states let you slide for a bit, but you know they want the tax money so not many will, you need to look at each state you are thinking about. Ask the human resource person at the company you are applying to, recruiters will only be trying to get you in the door so go to the other one who has to deal with those recruiters.

Most states give anywhere from 30 to 90 days to switch license.
This is a completely diffrent issue of residence for tax reasons though. Most states I belive use the 1/2 year rule. I.e. if you've had resistance in the state for 6 months, taxes are due. I'm hoping someone with more knowledge can help.
Also might help to know the state you are planning on moving to. Might get better answers with specifics.

I've heard of the 6 month rule also.

You would probably get an answer faster in the Taxes forum of this forum.
