Hi everyone, I hope you're doing great.
I'm here because I'm worried about my husband going to C1-Indianapolis. USA Truck has prehired him and although I've read plenty here already, it seems to be mostly very old posts. Most of what I read is bad or maybe 50/50 at best. So I'm hoping someone can tell me how USA is today, has it got better or worse, or about the same? I'm mostly worried about him going through it and then they scam him so that he has to pay tuition in full after they boot him or something. I read many posts where people made one mistake or two and they fired them, then they had to pay full tuition. I don't want to have to kick my husbands you know what. Thats alot of money. If you could please answer a few questions, I would greatly appreciate it.
1) How honest is this company?
2) How much do they teach students?
3) Do they train to read maps? (Husband isn't the worst but not greatest with directions)
4)Do you think they intend to can people before the year contract is up?
5)Do they allow drivers to make the route?
6)How forgiving are they with mistakes? (Such as calling in saying you think you would be late)
I'm sure I have more but can't think right now.
Here is info on my husband if it helps: 31 years old, has had CDL A about three years from community college, passed with GPA 3.3. He applied to every company we could find and was told he did not have a long enough work history back then. Now he has about 4 years work history so I don't think that is a problem anymore. Now of course a problem is he forgot alot of things and needs to be refreshed. USA is the first company to give a chance.
Worried about possible scam from USA Truck

Hi Starlight, I asked about USA Trucking and a poster gave me this link to the USA posts. There seems to be newer posts on it...

Look all these companies are good and or bad, depending on the posters experience. The students attitude has a lot to do with everything as well. So do conditions at home, adjusting to being on the road. There are a lot of variables.
A lot of people blame other for there situation rather excepting responsibility for the decision they have made.
1) How honest is this company?
Honest to a degree like the rest, but profit driven. None really care much for the driver as they are replaceable.
2) How much do they teach students?
Enough to get them started, normally just enough to be dangerous.
3) Do they train to read maps? (Husband isn't the worst but not greatest with directions). Only to a degree, better invest in a GPS.
4)Do you think they intend to can people before the year contract is up?
Yes, if they can not handle the job, it is not in there best interest to can you that does not make them money. They really want you to stay. But if they do your on the hook for the money and need a ride home.
5)Do they allow drivers to make the route? No.
6)How forgiving are they with mistakes? (Such as calling in saying you think you would be late)
Depends why your late, and when you call. In trucking the only reason is Hours of Service and you better let them know in time to get someone to deliver it on time. If your late for no good reason you will not last long. -
Very well said Powder Joints, I was doing my own and yours is much better...
I do want to ask this though, what money is he/you spending for training? He allready has his CDL and has to have for them to hire him so what are you paying for?

Thanks for the info everyone. Thanks for the link lil me.
Powder, you said to invest in a GPS, but also said they won't allow to plan your own route, so does this mean USA has a company GPS? We have thought about investing in a nuvi 465t, thats why I asked if they allow your own route plan. We also realize you can't rely on GPS alone. Thanks again. Also, do they generally give drivers enough time to get loads on time? Do they assume one will likely get a little lost towards the end of the route when in a busy city? I really don't know how it works, if they give you enough time to make a wrong turn or two or if it's sweat like crazy the whole way biting your nails.
Diesel, the tuition for the refresh course is $6000. USA I believe would pay $4000 as long as you sign a contract for a year. Then $45 deducted every week for the rest untill it's paid. He would like another way, but he almost certainly would have to do a refreshment course, being out of school 3 years without getting hired anywhere is like not having a CDL, as I've been told.Last edited: Dec 7, 2010

What I would do is call the community college back and explain your situation, and see if they will allow your husband to attend the class as an observer to recertify his schooling. The school I attended will allow me to attend a refresher course anytime, or at least print me a new diploma , if I get out of trucking for any length of time. I personally would stay away from USA truck and owing someone for school. There are some back to work programs available that will also pay for schooling like WIA , depending on where you live. Good Luck.

All I can say is when you do research on the internet about as company, you will get mainly negative.
But there is a silent majority to most companies. These ppl will give you more accurate info.
My thinking? If you live along a truck route, look for a USA driver. Ask him/her in person.
Most hard at work drivers will not get on here and defend their company. -
