Most truckers living today but born after around 1995 or so do not understand the old iron could be a gallon short on coolant after a hot day but still within limits rolling home with a load. The modern computer truck alarms, throws a code or three and causes all sorts of problems being a pint short far from anywhere. And like a Army mule refuses to move a inch until it gets its fluid anyway you can get it in there.

Robots are not taking over anytime soon. You worry too much.

 

When trucking becomes fully autonomous. That's about the point that AI will take over. You're going to have much more to worry about than a job. Pay attention to Elon Musk's warnings.

No one has mentioned one more reason robot trucks won’t take over for a while: insurance.

Insurance companies are strongly risk-averse, and liability insurance is going to be sky high until the tech matures enough to be proven safe enough to bet on.

 

Until I see an autonomous truck do this, I won't be impressed.

 

Any trucking company of any size is self insured.
