This is kind of related. A San Francisco bay area police department bought a few Tesla's for cruiser. One of their cops got into a chase with a felony suspect, and had to give it up because his batteries went dead.

Cops can easily pull into a gas station at any time during a shift, but they can't charge their electric car on duty. Tesla leads the world in electric and autonomous car technology, but you don't see their cars driving down the road (legally) while the driver is asleep behind the wheel, and we won't see autonomous trucks replacing truck drivers for many years (if ever).

Turns out Tesla police cars run out of 'gas' mid-chase, too

that's a two edged sword. If self insured to the first $250,000.00 means you pony up for any claim that comes a long Until one goes over $250,001.00 and the underwritten policy kicks in for the difference...just the difference, next claim is back in your pocket.

How many Prius' can Swift crush before the daily outlay starts to hurt...they need to show some effort to keep their backers to stay self insured....sitting in a house of cards playing Russian roulette.

Let's flip that around, Swift has destroyed a small number of families, how many more times will it be before little car topples big Swift?

Trains are on fixed paths and they aren't self driving yet

    Security Issues with Autonomous Trucks!

    Do you suppose Terrorist organizations
would want access to the Remote System's that control these 80k lb bombs?

What would happen if i got control of 5-6 of these trucks and pointed them at power plants, nuclear faculties, gov. buildings, schools, and Trumps House?

Not to mention that these vehicles are no-where near perfected. PPL are getting killed in auto cars...what would happen if a Truck was involved? Do you think 'Plaintiff Lawyers' would go after auto-trucks?

Gonna be a while before it happens. An autonomous truck cost over 1 million dollars right now. Until they can bring the cost of that Rig down to or equal to what it cost for a new truck, + driver expenses -cashback value over 5yrs, it won't happen. NOT TO MENTION the infrastructure costs will be ENORMOUS (biggest civil engineering project in history).

IF ANYONE is capable of doing this and has 'the money' to do it, it will first be CHINA. (not the usa)

if you want to worry about autonomous trucks, start worrying about minimum wage out pacing truck driving.

if you want to worry, worry about the next big earth quake to hit CA, and you're stuck in it and die.

if you want to worry, worry about the price of gasoline, food, clothing, and pie at the truck stops.

    NOTHING IS LONG TERM ANYMORE.

Yes they are now. Australia ore services have autonomus engines and slaves running tonnage at a steady pace.

America is implementing Positive Train Control Level 4 which will allow say Jacksonville Dispatch and Cheyenne Dispatch to remotely move and stop trains anywhere in the USA at some point.

Probably less than 10% it's the easiest thing to automate I don't think those ore trains are going through New York City anytime soon
