You do realize the OP just joined yesterday, right?

Chances are he knows little if anything about our business, which may I remind you and everyone else is WHY WE ARE HERE.

    So put away your pitchfork.

I wouldn’t worry about it. What you’re asking about is a long way off. It’ll take an eternity before the infrastructure that autonomous trucking would require is in place, and that will require investors.

You're in it for the long term but are worried about something that's decades away, decades, but then you want to go into the oil fields to make the big bucks???

If you do go into oil field work you'll have a legitimate worry about getting laid off every 3-7 years and wondering if you'll survive the next round of layoffs. Two things are true in the patch....it's going to boom again and it's going to bust again....and then you have these weird middle times like right now where everyone is worried about market conditions afraid to schedule a vacation or make a big purchase....why waste a year in a truck otr you'll be that much closer to getting replaced by a pipeline in the oil field

I thought that was the way to go because they make O/O money with a company. Aren't drivers in high demand in the oil field? If that's the case, I'll just jump companies and if nobody's hiring, then I'd go to UPS or Walmart. I just don't want to be a company driver for a mega my 2nd year.

When that happens I will use my flying car to deliver pizzas on the moon.

Seriously, someone builds a prototype robot truck and the industry is over. Why isn't everyone working for a robot dispatcher? It's a million times easier to automate that job. Yet nobody has a robot for a dispatcher. Quit now and avoid the rush.

They actually built a prototype robot dispatcher that was programmed to be like real dispatchers. The only problem was that they still wanted to be home by 5.

There is a big reason drivers are in high demand in oil field. They walk away. I did. Just too screwed up. Too much of meatball mentality. Just a matter of time till I got in trouble with DOT. Was talking with an O/O who left oil field. Now doing what I do now. Same thing with him. "yes you can make the money but..... no... just ..... no." ... I agree... "no".
I would suggest if you want Oil Field. Perhaps someone like Halliburton, or Schlumberge? I deliver to Halliburton. Seems to be a good operation.

Mack.... I ask you to go watch those videos of that robotic dog. It will walk over very tough terrain. Especially when they kick it. It recovers beautifully. (they're not allowed to kick it for demonstration anymore) They're developing intelligence like this. Shows truly 'autonomous' existence. No great need for infrastructure. Much easier to do with a truck.
Elon Musk is not full of it with his warnings. He's a smart cookie.

You are worried about the future because you just started and they've already made an autonomous truck?

    Cheer up.
You could be hit by a bus before those trucks take your job away.
