Going to auction to pick up 1941 Packard, 2 plus hours away in wilmington, Delaware.
Get there and load, about to jump on 95 North ramp, top rad. hose blows. I stop
with people pointing, and taking pictures of the old car.
    Now what?
"Don't ever say what else; you'll find out what else!"
I cut the hose and reattach. Plan B.
I start the truck and another cloud of steam! What the?
So fan sticks out 1" past shroud, tips are sharp square ends, cuts Plan B hose.
    Now what?
I wrap a rubber glove and duct tape it then slit the hose I cut off to go over.
Fasten with 10 or 12 wire ties. Pour in 3 of the 4 gallons of juice.
Google "Nearest Freightliner Dealer?" 3.4 mi. away.
Head out leaking and got to a 1960's mom and pop Dealer w/ no hose.
Nearest other dealer is 16 miles. That is on 295 crossing big bridge.
Engine protect comes on; luckily B4 I got on bridge. Pull far right, put out cones.
    Now what?
Need a hose that's still across the 295 bridge 16 miles away. Stuck my thumb out.
10 minutes in a Tesla stops with a "You broke down; get in." I tell him whats up.
Hes going by there, so drops me at wawa, saying it's over the overpass and first left.
He is right again, but its a 2 mi. walk! I haven't walked 2 miles in 10 years.
    Now what?
Get there, and they don't have right hose, so I'm screwed,
but luckily I measured each way from the elbow. They have a hose I can cut down.
I have to walk back to the wawa to catch the tesla guy coming back thru.
Did I mention it is a 2 mi. walk??
Get to wawa, and must have asked 20 people if they're
going back towards Wilmington across 295 bridge? Of course not.
tesla guy calls my cell that he is 5 min. away; am I at wawa? you bet!
Got in and spring it to him that I need antifreeze, where's a walmart?
Stop and get 4 gal. and drops me by the last exit before bridge.
    Now what?
How am I going to carry 4 gal. of antifreeze and the hose?
I take my belt off and put thru handles with hose between ,
so I had 2 in front, the hose over my shoulder, and 2 behind.
    So again, now what?
I have to walk either around a jughandle turn about 1500 ft,
or down the bank at a 50 degree angle for 80 feet.
Each step threw 4 gal. back and forth real hard.
Almost fell forward, almost fell backward - several times.
Got to bottom and could see my truck. 1/3 mile away.
Got there and got hose on, this time checked by spinning fan by hand.
NO GOOD! Sharp corners on fan hits this hose, too.
    Now what?
I had a grinder with cutoff wheel so I cut off the 45 angle, about 1" across,
to radius fan blades for clearance.
got to the last 3, and the battery runs out.
    Now what?
So in my tools under the seat I had a saws-all and finished last 3 blades.
Poured in the juice, and a police car with all the lights going pulls up.
    You guessed it; now what?
He turns and faces inbound traffic, and sits with lights going.
he's just the light show to slow traffic! Good.
I back up about 20 ft. from him and get out. puts down window.
"I had a really bad day. I gotta get back on 95 north."
He says follow me; takes me way down under the base
of this gigantic steel bridge tower and across to other side. skips toll.
Cool, on my way. Got home at 11:30.
4 hr. trip took 15 hours and also I walked 4.5 miles.
Don't ever say what else; you'll find out what else!

Sounds pretty typical of the old car hobby where the retrieval is more of an adventure than the restoration.

It was like a torture test to see when my head would explode.
I should have myself arrested for elder abuse.
