A 1972 Brockway 270 cat 13 speed 4:10 rears . Hendrickson walking beam suspension no air no sleeper air assist steering .

Man I loved that truck ran chicago to saint louis hauling steel to start and then went to dry box. Slept laid over a board between the seats . Now that was trucking boys I loved every minute of it too !!!

These new breed whiners would not have lasted a day when you had to be a Diver to drive a truck .

I love trucking so I have never had a bad job or a bad truck ! I will say that I have had some of each that were better than others .

The thing is each and every one of them have made the driver that I am today and for that I would not trade any of it for anything .

33 years and I have not hit or ran over anything no damage to freight or equipment and no tickets since they did away with the 55 nation wide .

I guess some would call me lucky and I am in many ways but in the real world you make your own luck allot of the times .

Oh ya I have never worked for an outfit that had more than a 100 trucks either .

back when I started I drove a 71 dodge swingfender 238 detroit 13 speed manual steering but to an 18 year old that was good as a brand new pete...I had more fun driving that old girl than any truck since..also drove a early 70,s reo doors rattled so bad that Id shut the door on a glove to tighten it up ...i drove a lot of junk but loved every minute of it..its all how bad you want to do it ...kinda funny I look back when I started and look at the trucks now ..wow, what a change just got a 2013 cascadia last week boy the times have changed...

Sure do. Drove them for JB Hunt in 1992-1993. No assigned trucks back then. Slip seat operation all the way. Trucks totally stripped down. No radio or anything. So underpowered you would just crawl up a steep grade. No Jake either. Rattling, vibrating junk. They would beat you to death.

My old shaker had 11/24.5's with 4.10s and a 15 direct. 55 MPH @ 1770 RPM! She was built to run in BC and needed that gearing so that the Big Cam 1- 350 could make it up the hills.

Job I got after leaving CR England. Drove a 85 Cabover Pete or Freightliner pending which one was running. Nothing worked right No Air Horn No AC No Heat Fuel tank leaked fuel. Drove dump truck for the same guy also and Power steering did not work. Other trucks I drove while both of my Cab Over trucks were down had magor issues also, not to mention he kept parts off other junk trucks in the sleepers. Lasted a Month with that job.

I never really cared what I drove as long as it had heat & air conditioning & the company has good pay & benefits.

Do some research & many companies have very nice equipment and hire new CDL drivers. I prefer mid to large companies because the benefit package is usually better. I don't care if the dispatcher knows me by name or number; just pay me on time, I'm not your friend, I'm your employee.
