No, it was a real good rate. Only a jerk would try and rape him. He would just hang up and move on to the next person who would take it.

Oh brother..... what are you trying to get invited to Christmas dinner with this broker and his family or are you trying to haul a one off load? He's not interested in making friends.

It's not rape or gouging. I'm not a jerk and I do it like that all the time. Business is business. It's just numbers. Nothing personal. I don't get all bent out of shape when they low ball me, I don't complain, I get it... it's business.

Calling someone a jerk or even thinking like that is emotion. Emotion has no place in this game. Instead of calling me a jerk why don't you try it sometime? You might be surprised how often you score an extra $500, or $1,000 or more simply because you asked for it.

This broker showed you his losing hand and was praying, hoping you would just take his offer and run. Do you think he would be worried that you thought him a jerk if he quoted you lowball after you told him you needed his load to get home because your mother was on her deathbed?

FWIW TQL has been good to me. Yes they and all of them call with low ball stuff but I counter and either get it or not......I don't take it personally at all no way no how!

Although who knows....this thread started 2 years ago so maybe they didn't have their #### together back then.

I only started running September 8th so I can only say they have been good and honest to me.

I would say most if not all there rates are ridiculous. There obviously still in business so there must be plenty of drivers out there willing to work for free.

As someone mentioned above you can counter for a better price and maybe 1 out of 10 times they will accept it. And now you got the rate you wanted and all there other bs begins.

What do you consider by good rate? Example of a load?

I'll have to look later but I wouldn't have run it if it didn't make sense....I am home when I quote loads so no need for me to leave my living room if it doesn't $ound good. I know I have run several loads for them but said no to way more....but with zero animosity....anyone taking it personally is just silly IMO.

    2 loads....$500 for 168 miles....and $2200 for 718 miles.

They were pretty difficult/technical/no rookie flatbed loads though so I can't speak for anything other than those.

I imagine you will not get that kind of coin for simply closing some trailer doors and driving.

One weekend, in ND. Landstar had some loads i pulled. They were totes. $750 per 90 mile trip. Back Empty. 3 loads on saturday, 3 loads on sunday. Going from a warehouse in williston, to a pumping sight.

Now, THAT was a good rate. Course, this thread isn't about the best rates or Landstar. :)

I was hauling pipe last late fall and early winter up to Williston, ND. The rate was so good I was dead heading back 1,000 miles for another. Me and 4 other truckers said we would take all of them. I never ever made so much money then doing that.

The bottom was falling out of the drilling business and the pipe company wanted to fulfill their contract quick so they paid us really well.
